Good luck to all hoping to attract Kelly, and if CFC are unsuccessful there's, Hopper, Smith , Kenedy and few others, not too shabby options all valuable assests to any team, so who knows.
Also , next year is looking very strong for FA some real gems, restructuring teams are gradual and methodical procedures.

Christ, after this 180 page tit-for-tat circus, it would be piss funny if Kelly re-signed with GWS.
A two year contract with a player option that in effect is a "career ending injury" clause would be an interesting option ie 'Two years at $800k, and at Kelly's option then the contract extends to six years at $400k a year for years three to six'.

If he doesnt get hurt in the next two years, then he declines the option and ker-ching.

This lets him maximise his value if he plays in a premiership, while covering the downside risk of a career ending injury.

AFL contracts can't contain one-sided options. They can only contain automatically triggering options based off certain metrics, e.g. games played, or mutually agreed options where both parties have to choose to accept the option (NDS is the only example I know where this has come up) - this really isn't any different to signing an extension.

Since you're interested in career ending injuries, they could add that option for $400k/year for four years that automatically becomes valid if Kelly misses a certain number of games. I don't know that either would really be sold on that though, because Kelly might "only" do an ACL, etc.

you'd think Kelly himself would definitely know his decision by now. don't buy into this rubbish media talk about how he doesn't even know whether he's staying or going at seasons end. it is also ridiculous to suggest "north have bowed out of the race' for Kelly.. every club would want him. imo he is definitely leaving, just a matter of to which club in Vic. it'll be one of the main three mentioned in nmfc, stk and carltank

If Kelly was going to stay at GWS on a two year deal, he would have signed the one they've had in front of him for a year by now.

Yep. There isn't going to be any further offers from GWS, so if he was staying he would have logically re-signed.

In fact, didn't Kelly/Kellys management state that he/they didn't want GWS to make any more offers?

I'm also hearing Kelly to North is a near definite and he won't entertain offers from GWS, and GWS are obliging and don't want to match the multi-year multi-million dollar contract.

James would also be very confident he has a few more years left in him. Always been a great reader of the ball with excellent disposal.

Win win!

Mystery solved.
Josh has agreed to join the saints as reigning brownlow medalist..
After we wrestle with dusty in the last round and he gets a fine.

"Richmond superstar Dustin Martin is the raging favourite to have the medal draped around his neck but even that is in danger. He has twice been fined for low-level offences this season and if it happens a third time, he will automatically be struck out for a game and won't win the Brownlow.

According to the AFL.com.au predictor, Josh Kelly (21 votes), Tom Mitchell (19) and Marcus Bontempelli and Rory Sloane (each 18) would be the main contenders if that happened."

I don't know if he would have made his decision by now. He may very well wait until the end of year. GWS could be in line for a flag, and are a reasonable chance. Kelly might just be one of those kids who prioritizes what he can - over what he can't. And at present there is no point worrying about whether he is going to sign/re-sign. We can only speculate, but none of us are in his shoes. If we were, I think most of us would make our decision after seasons end. If GWS were to win the flag, I think it would make his decision easier to leave. I don't buy into North Melbourne being Kelly's sole destination, and that is why I would pay little attention to anyone saying North are out of the race. Quite possibly the race hasn't even began yet, or there will be no race at all. I think his decision will be weighed up at seasons end.

I doubt it.

Our captain has some respect for himself.
You're right, probably no need for Jack to try to woo him.

Josh's dad played for the club, they have offered him a shedload of cash and they have the picks to do the deal.

They can't balls this one up surely.

Definitely.

Josh is the jewel in our trading crown.

Although Dusty would have been a nice set of steak knives.
