Yes.
THIS draft was supposedly a 'super draft'

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2016-05-09/bumper-draft-crop-for-2017-may-see-clubs-hold-their-picks

So was the year before

http://m.afl.com.au/news/2015-08-09/trade-future-picks-or-get-the-cream-of-the-2016-crop

And they're just the ones i can be bothered looking up.

Literally every year there is hype about the following years draft

Not doubting its said every year, but good sources have mentioned this year being not as good as 2016 and 2018, port traded to get extra picks in 2016 giving up a 2017 first rounder to do so.

This is utter garbage. Who do you suggest we should have traded? If you mention Hurley or Hooker, you're a fool. Draft picks are overrated. Luckily we have shown an ability to develop talent no matter where they are drafted.
He's obsessed with trading for draft picks.

Seems to think the AFL is like one giant video game.

A trade that works should all pieces fall into place.

Carlton
In: Kelly + Hopper
Out: Gibbs, Pick 3, 2018 2nd round pick

Adelaide
In: Gibbs, Carlton 2018 2nd round pick
Out: Pick 15, 2018 1st round pick

GWS
In: Pick 3, Pick 15, Adelaide 2018 1st round pick
Out: Kelly + Hopper

Adelaide would back themselves to win the flag next year and Carlton without Gibbs bottom 4 making the 2018 swap likely a 1-5 place draft order and GWS should be reasonably content.

Adelaide seems to be doing well Pick 15 + something like Pick 15 in 2018 for Gibbs + around Pick 20 ie. a late first rounder and a slight upgrade.

Just wanted to welcome all of the North fans over from the Dusty thread :thumbsu:
Just wanted to add the following to those new to the thread.

1) North is a true club, GWS is an AFL franchise- yep, we've heard it before.
2) Kelly's Dad played 61 games for North, which automatically means he's eligible for the mid career father son trade and we will bend over backwards to accept your second rounder + Deccan Mountford.
3) Kelly is incapable of staying at GWS or going to another Melbourne club because he wore a North scarf as a kid.
4) North is going places while GWS are on the slide.
5) Our franchise will die once the AFL kitty runs dry.
6) Kelly is best mates with Luke McDonald and hasn't made any friends in his four seasons at the Giants.
7) Kelly can't wait to play with Dusty, I mean Jack Ziebell.
8) Our club is in Blacktown, which is a hole. North is based at Arden Street is a great part of Melbourne and Josh can't wait to be there.
9) Money talks and Josh signed the contract in round 6 and spends his bye weekend's in Melbourne preparing to drink Cappuccino's with Dusty, I mean Ben Cunnington.
10) Money > success. Money > culture. GWS can't have culture because we are a franchise.
11) Did I mention our club is a soulless franchise?

That should cover it. Can't wait to have you all onboard North fans :thumbsu:

Why wouldn't you? Pick 3 + 15 is too much for Kelly alone, he would fetch more pick 3 + 2nd rounder and then you get a 1st round pick for Hopper and a upgrade from a 2nd to 1st round to add to it.

They may give us pick 10 or so via collingwood lever trade, 3 + 10 + 20 next year vs 3 + 15 + 16 next year

No it isnt to much for Kelly.
And Hopper is worth more than 18 (or later depending on academy f/s or priprity picks)

The 'unprecedented' nature of it was due to you losing half your list (and best players) due to a systemic club wide doping regime that resulted in tens of millions of dollars of fines, payouts and legal costs, criminal sanctions, suspension from the finals a few years back, and half your team being suspended last year (resulting in the spoon).

Of course you bounced back this year. You couldnt exactly have gone backwards from that.

You're now left with a mix of decent young players (obtained via finishing low and players like Carlisle quitting) and some senior blokes back in the side.

I predicted you guys scraping into the 8 this year, but you still have a Frankenstein monster list that has most people scratching its head. Personally I would have let your senior blokes leave (traded out Hurley, Watson and others) when you had the chance, and then used that currency to load up on the draft and gone forward with Heppell, Francis, Merrett, Daniher, McGrath and co leading the charge via a mini rebuild.

Instead the Dons had a bet each way. Kept the old guard (out of loyalty for trashing their careers largely) and also got in some good youth.

Like I said; you had a bet each way.

There is no 'premiership window' opening at the Dons. Just mid table finishes for a few years (unless you nail the next few drafts of course). Your list is as unbalanced as ours was a few years back when we spent a few years in the finals (but didnt really achieve much).

Whatever gets you out of bed in the morning.
Good post there, Mal. Accurate assessment of a very thin list.
