Agree. If there's one thing we lack it's inside mids.

True, but Spitta is on the way out and Cunners is the best of the inside mids, not sure I'd trade him unless we got a really good deal or someone else started to come on massively.

Horace it appears you've finally drank the Captain Cynical Claret over the last week. Give me Happy Horace back...

Sorry Shinte but Happy Horace has left when it comes to injuries and injury rooms. I don't think I will ever recover from seeing us go 9 and zip at the start of last year and then week by week the injuries struck and everything went downhill from there.

According to The Age "AFL players would get a pay rise this year of almost 25 per cent after the league put forward a revised offer to the players union in protracted pay talks in recent days." http://www.theage.com.au/afl/afl-players-big-pay-break-through-20170411-gvizgw.html.

The good news is that it makes our supposed offer to JK more affordable. The bad news is that it makes it easier for GWS to sweeten their counteroffer, at least in terms of dollars.

If the primary cost of Kelly was Cunnington you'd do it in a heartbeat though.

Yep, I would.

And tbh I'm not saying Cunners is untouchable by any stretch. If we're serious about a very quick "reset" he's up for trade for the right price. Him, Ziebell and Dumont, we can trade one imo.

Dont know about that, unless Garner is thinking of becoming an inside Mid. For Kelly, yes tradeable, but not for just any player.

Swallows perfromances are hurting us, as his currency is diminished. GCS will get a bargain there if he gets going

Interesting comments made by Jay Clark and Scott Pendlebury on the 'Jock and Journo' podcast on the collingwood website. Jay Clark said that he believed his 'sure thing' was that Josh Kelly would sign with north at seasons end as its money can't refuse type stuff and the chance to play at his old mans club would be a huge drawcard. pendlebury then chimed in saying that Kelly is one of his top 5 favourite players in the comp and that despite being widely recognised as an outside player, his inside contested game is always something Collingwood look to mitigate when they play GWS. It's just because of his role within the GWS team that he plays outside mostly, but is equally fine at getting his own ball. Found these comments by both very intriguing

Hawthorn at the end of the year will have space to chase talent..........Burgoyne, Hodge, Gibson one would think would be on decent coin. Wouldn't be surprise if these pratts pull another rabbit out of the hat......they may offload a player of value as well.

they will be chasing steven may. they also dont have many picks to trade with.

Hawks have as little currency to chase May as Geelong does Devon Smith. Both clubs will suffer from already excessively dipping in the well.

Didn't they trade their second?
Sorry - they get GWS 2nd rounder. Mid 30s!!!

End of the day most of their players at the end of last year had played an extra season due to finals. They had to do something to refresh the list but it looks like it hasn't worked.

They undoubtedly felt they were challenging again.

My misery at their expense is insurmountable.

Don't think we will finish bottom 5 if we get Kelly - we aren't that bad a team.
We get wood back , get more games into the younguns like Wagner, Simpkin, garner ect - add that to our senior players we will be ok.
Plus get rid of the guys that are past it

I agree.

This is our season to go hard.

Not sure about tarrent.
But fair point.
Just think we would be like Carlton thin up back without him post thomo.
Hmm post thomo may be now.
Carry on.
I'd have thought Tarrant would be the first player they'd ask for . Tall rebounding back is their only deficiency if you could say they have one .

They can ask for whomever they want. They're the ones with the guy out of contract offered a million a year.

Sounds like they need Lachy Hanson. First rounder, and must have impressed them last week. Do the deal.

CAN THE $9 MILLION MAN HANDLE THE HEAT?

Herald Sun

Josh Kelly’s price tag, and his ability to handle the hype that accompanies it, has generated both humour and admiration from his Greater Western Sydney AFL teammates.

The classy 22-year-old midfielder is the subject of a reported nine-year $9 million bid by North Melbourne, the team he starred against in the Giants’ win in Hobart last weekend.

Forward Jeremy Cameron revealed Kelly’s teammates had dropped the odd quip about his value.

“It does pop up every now and then,” Cameron said.

“Players like Shawy (Heath Shaw) and Mummy (Shane Mumford), just the usual suspects getting around him.

“But we love Josh. He’s a really great person to have around the club, the way he goes about his footy as you can see.

“He was probably under the pump a little bit on the weekend and he just played a superb game.”

Giants coach Leon Cameron said Kelly’s performance against North showed his focus was on football and he remained confident the midfielder would sign a contract extension.

GWS are in the middle of a five-game block of matches away from their Spotless Stadium base, which is currently being used for the Sydney Royal Easter Show. “We popped in there and had a look and it’s pretty chewed up,” Cameron said. “It would be hard to get a few marks inside 50 there.”

GWS host Port Adelaide on Saturday in Canberra, the Giants’ secondary home base. Cameron wasn’t overly concerned about about not playing at their primary home ground for an unusually long period and the resultant early-season travel. “It can be tough at times I guess, but at the start of the year you’re fairly fresh,” he said.

“So if there was a time where you did want to travel, I dare say it would be early on in the season.

“We were lucky enough to get one game there in round two this year which broke it up a little bit which was good.

“But Canberra is not too far away. It’s only like a half-an-hour flight. Big Mummy cant even get a feed on the way up!

“A lot of guys do love playing there, so it makes it a lot easier.”
