Given JK is now outright leader of the Coleman Medal, thought it'd be fun to track, analyse and discuss his chances with only two weeks to go in the H&A season. JK would be the third person since '63 (and first since Gary Ablett Sr in '95) to take three Coleman Medals in a row. He faces some stiff competition from young up-and-comer Joe Daniher (*cough* FLOG *cough*), and Lance '9 Year Contract' Franklin to complete the feat.
First, let's look at the competition.
JOE DANIHER (ESS)
Current Goal Tally: 59 (AVG: 3)
Remaining Games: Suns (4) Dockers (4)
Joey Daniher is the real black horse in this race. Averaging 3 goals a game and with opposition ripe for the picking, he could easily swell his final goal count if he gets on the end of a couple in the coming weeks. I've gone relatively conservative with my figures for both games. Could easily see Joe kicking 5+ in both games to really blow everyone out of the water for the medal (Fingers crossed this doesn't happen).
MY PREDICTED TOTAL: 67 GOALS
LANCE FRANKLIN (SYD)
Current Goal Tally: 56 (AVG: 2.8)
Remaining Games: Adelaide (3) Carlton (6)
The consumate "outside 50" specialist, Franklin's run home is a bit more of a mixed bag with games against Adelaide and Carlton to finish the H&A season. I've gone conservative here again, and can't see him kicking more than his average amount against a very strong, attacking Adelaide side next week, but can see him having a feast on the Blues to end the season strongly.
MY PREDICTED TOTAL: 65 GOALS
Now let's look at the man himself!
JOSH KENNEDY (WCE)
Current Goal Talley: 60 (AVG: 4.0)
Remaining Games: GWS (3) Adelaide (5)
Kennedy faces the hardest run by far if he intends to snag the Coleman for a third year straight, with games against top 4 locks in GWS and Adelaide. Now you're probably thinking "What the *? 5 against Adelaide?" but hear me out! Assuming Adelaide lock in top 2 next weekend against Sydney, they'll surely be more concerned with finals planning and resting their best over giving a relative stuff about a game in Perth. In comes Kennedy with 5 (or more?) goals. Hello history! Considering JK's relatively strong form against GWS, I've penciled him in for 3 against a stronger GWS than we've historically faced on their turf.
MY PREDICTED TOTAL: 68 GOALS
So according to my calculations, a three peat is on the cards for JK!? Will be interesting to monitor and see how close my predictions are. Feel free to predict yourselves. No prizes for the winner.
