Dont forget Hawkins was scoreless for the three weeks prior to being gifted a game against our shambolic defence. Dont forget Kennedy kicked four in the first final when our midfield got on top.

If anyone was really ready to take his spot I think JK would put his hand up and say get them in.

In short the young guys form ain't good enough for him to be pushed him out.

I'm more wondering about williams as I see him as ff/ruck which works well with nic nat but where does that leave brander? I only see him get games in the back line really.

Am I reading right in that he still kicked 49 goals this season? That seems way off, did not appear to have that sort of impact
Its 2 goals a game. A handful of games with donuts substituted with some 3-4 goal efforts. My issue with JK is outside of his goals he is having less impact on the game itself. Darling can still impact a game without bags of goals.

Exactly. Take the Saints game for instance. Kennedy was diabolical for 3 quarters but had a purple patch of 5 mins, kicked 2 clutch goals and possibly won us the game.

Even though he was still important in us winning, even though he still kicked 2, 100 mins of trash beforehand doesn't make that a good game for mine.

That's been a similar story for most of the year. He's still impacted the scoreboard but his around the ground stuff has dropped right off. He's not a marking target anymore IMO.

Contested marks, contested posessions, disposals, inside 50's, score involvements, marks inside 50 and metres gained are all at a 5 year low or worse.

I think he'll be fine if he can get a decent run at it, the problem is he's now two seasons removed from having a proper pre season. In todays comp, you only need to be 5% off your opponent and you may as well not be playing at all.

Fingers crossed his body get's a rest and he can do a decent pre season coming into 2020, and we manage him throughout the season.

Agree with the sentiment that no one is ready to take his spot yet, but he should be managed and play at home and only in big away games. Other than that give Brander some more minutes if he has a big pre season.

JK surely goes another year at least, clearly carrying injury most of this season. As mentioned by others, he only needs to get off the leash for a few minutes to damage opposition teams. Would like to see JK effectively managed next season and give some games to Oscar Allen as lead-up forward

I just don't think Kennedy's body is right. Whether at his age he can get it "right" again is the question. I wouldn't throw him out just yet. A bit of a rest and a full pre season and I still think that he will have a lot to offer.

Blokes been hobbling around for 2 years as we've waited patiently for him to "get his body right" and "have a proper pre season".

Do people really think at 32 it's going to get easier for him next year?

Chances are the same lower leg injuries/knocks/bruising is going to flare up and he'll be short of a gallop yet again.

I want him to play for another 20 years at his peak, so no one is bagging him. Whilst his goals per game are still reasonable, his defensive effort (through age and loss of speed) is non existent.

When was the last time you remember a Keneddy chase and run down for holding the ball? He used to do it regularly. Pretty much now he doesn't even bother trying.

He missed almost all of the pre season. I hope he gets fit and has a full pre season. I think we need to transition him out alowing brander and allen to grow into roles.

On another note, although at times it is frustrating how long we hang onto players in their decline, we do handle the retirements of our champions with aplomb and respectfully.

There would be riots in the streets if we pulled off the crazy s*** Hawks do with their stars, ala Hodge and the like.

Imagine JJK playing in a prelim this week for Collingwood or something after we traded him for pick 88.

Bleh.

That crazy stuff from Hawthorn has to bite them at some stage.

I'm a player with 5 years max playing career left...I'm looking elsewhere to get a grandfather deal.

Brander and Allen will have to fill the void the Kennedy will eventually leave behind.

On paper 2020 should be a good year for the club, but kennedy aside, the glaring weaknesses that got exposed during the season should be addressed during the offseason

He's good to go for another year in my books.

Certainly not the reason for the finals exit.

Delivery into F50 dropped was highly inconsistent this year. The patches where it was done well were sublime but this was outweighed by the kick it up high and hope periods.

I dont know why footy clubs particularly ours are reluctant to not have old agers play less games. We've been like that in the past with Cox etc where he would start the season strongly but towards the back end would be throwing himself around for free kicks because he was obviously tired as the season went on.

Im giving Geelong shit for it this year where if you look at Ablett's first half of season vs second half of season its chalk and cheese. He is a player that could really cut a team apart in a final and yet sitting 11-1 at the break the only week he had off was where he seemed to be looking for it by belting blokes.

In our instance it could prolong the careers of prime performers like Kennedy if he say didn't have to travel or didn't look for game time until the bye. Barring injury to your other KPF's if you are not going to play your best footy 1 senior aged KPF with a foot out the door isn't going to get you back into it.
IMO seriously better off giving a young KPF the opportunity to be on the front line with the managed scenario above so they are all on the same page and he knows JK will be back in the back half of the year and all going well for JK + other forwards his spot in the team is the one up for grabs.

Delivery is important. Consideration must be given to the fact that we had Nat for only 5(?) games. You can almost rely on the following scenario happening at least once a game. Nat tapping the ball down to a running Shuey with him kicking it to a leading JK dead in front of goals about 40m out. He would convert a minimum of 75% of these opportunities which would mean another 14 or 15 goals for the year. I think we wouldn't be having this conversation if Nat played every game and JK finished with say 63 goals for the year?
