He's good to go for another year in my books.

Certainly not the reason for the finals exit.

Delivery into F50 dropped was highly inconsistent this year. The patches where it was done well were sublime but this was outweighed by the kick it up high and hope periods.

JK got hands to the ball innumerable times, but failed to mark the ball; whether that was because of diminished spring, I don't know, but he was rumored to have an Achilles issue.

Kennedy kicked 49 goals in 22 games. That's 7th in the comp in a relatively poor year for him. Will absolutely go around again and barring injury line up in Rd 1. Didn't have a consistent year but still played some good games. Took 5 contested marks and kicked 7 on Tarrant, managed 13 marks inside 50 and 7.7 in two games against Essendon.

Forward line line dynamic changed a fair bit this year. LeCras gawn, Lycett gawn, Venables barely played, Vardy barely played, Rioli missed the first half of the year (and is about to miss a lot more), Cripps missed 5 games, Petruccelle and Allen were introduced, Cameron played 7 games, Waterman played the last 8. A lot of the time it didn't look settled. Against Geelong on Friday we had a few occasions where we kicked to a big back and no one got a run at the ball or JK, Darling and Ryan all went up and no one was down for the loose ball. Getting separation between Darling and JK has been what has made our forward line so potent.

Good post mate.

Also possible Kennedy does a Roughead and goes downhill fast but Roughead hasn't been a top key forward since 2015. Lucky if that does happen we aren't reliant on him with Darling now the #1 forward and other avenues to goal.

Roughead also had a serious dose of skin cancer which accelerated his decline on the football field

Kennedy just put up:

Career low for marks
Career low for inside 50's
Career low for tackles inside 50
Career low for score involvements
Career low for metres gained

2nd career low for contested marks
5 year low for marks inside 50

The bolded is the most concerning for mine. I don't have a huge amount of data on pressure acts or his 1v1 win percentage (if anyone can help that'd be great)

All i know is in 2019 he is averaging 7.1 pressure acts per game, which is the worst of all our forwards, and the entire team other than Schofield and Barrass.

My point is, it's one thing losing a contest, it's another thing not putting on any pressure and having the opposition waltz away with the footy. That's when you know we've got to really put the trigger and make a call on playing him.

His 1v1 win percentage is what i really want to know, i'm starting to think he's losing more than he's winning.

Guys, I just heard from my Mum's Cousin's dog's Vet that Kennedy will be playing for some team called the Brumbies next year. Apparently his leg injury is worst than originally thought. His actual contract extension was just a ploy to keep all other teams at bay. Announcement will be imminent :D

Good analysis.

One thing that concerned me was how many shots he had for goal when a teammate was in a better position. Prime Kennedy kicking 80 goals always handed off goals to LeCras and Cripps. A few times this year Kennedy has had the ball 30 out on an angle with a teammate running into an open goal and gone for the snap and not the handball.

After watching the Fox kicking across the river competition, I feel Josh Kennedy should retire, for 2 reasons:
1. His physical ability has badly declined: How on earth a full forward kicked only 49 metres after 2 attempts? Converting it back to a "set shot on goal situation", he probably can only kick 35 metres! (The kicking platform is higher than the destinated river)!
2. His willingness to complete a task: Wearing a Eagles‘ jumper to compete, I expect him to put a bit more effort into this type of task.
This also made me thinking of his poor performance in some H & A matches. His willingness to compete seems to be declining as well.

While I say that, I hope he can change in a poistive way and come back to kick 80 goals for the Eagles in 2020. When he plays and competes well, other team members play and compete well too.

No question that age is catching up with Jk, he is no longer the player he was but imo still is very much an asset to the side. I can only hope that your decision to retire him off due to his performance at a fun event where he was having a crack at barrels after being in Melbourne enjoying GF events for the last week is a joke.

Yes it is half of a joke. However, the trend is a concern. It definitely needs improvement rather than continue with this trend.
Also, the difference between a good leader and a ordinary one is one tries hard in all occassions. If you are not serious with small task, the chance you are not serious with other tasks is quite high.
Certainly, I feel disappointed.

So, you would rather he tear a hamstring in a fun event to prove his dedication to the club, rather than be conservative so he can have an uninterrupted pre-season.

Great strategy.

If he would tear a hamstring just by kicking like a normal full forward, then yes he should take a rest and he is not fit for what he is supposed to do.
Find a Fox recording and understanding those numbers and judge it yourself. He kicked more than 10 metres less than Tayla Harris!

Who cares? Seriously, you need to get a life.

True, and if you dont want to or willing to do it, get somebody who can and will.
This is the reason why we dont score enough winning margins when we won; slide from top 2 to top 4, from top 4 to top 5, because of what you think.
This is also most of the forum members not happy this year too.

That was a seriously good bomb, would love to see her unleash one in a game. Would have won the whole comp in 2015.
She also beat about 5 other blokes, should they all retire as well?

But this is the clubs decision to make, not yours or mine. I wouldn't get too worked up over it because it is out of your control. :thumbsu:
