On that point of some people's assertion that the Hawks were arrogant going into the GF / gave the Swans no respect / felt the flag was their's [not suggesting you're among them Jock], I have yet to be shown any proof of that. Pre-GF I heard nothing but respect for Sydney out of (official) Hawthorn mouths. The people who were suggesting such things were probably the same flogs who think Buddy is a love-child of the umpires.

Re the CoL allowance, no suggestion here that it impacted the GF result, but considering it was implemented in the mid-90s, when salaries for rookies, etc. were much less, I think it needs reviewing across all parts of the country.
I have only come across hawthorn fans who had this "we were born to rule" mentality and most thought the GF was theirs this year. The only time i have heard the swans being praised was by Hodge and Clarkson after the game.

Most hawk fans on here gave the swans a backhanded compliment. Sure we won but it was more about them losing than us winning the way we did.

Anyway no one is going to take away the joy of this years flag..made even sweeter by the fact that melbourne footy experts got it ever so wrong all year about the swans - again.

Also why is there this need to discredit a teams flag? I have only experienced this in the AFL. Every year the premiers achievements are put down, fans try and find excuses to brand that team as not worthy.

Why does this happen so much? Never experienced in any other code i have followed.

GWS don't have any picks in the 20s - #20 traded to Melb, #24 (and #43) to St Kilda. Next pick after #13 is #62.

Thanks for clarifying. The way I've heard it from a lot of people is they're suggesting it was the players/coaches/admin from Hawthorn who were displaying arrogance (which is what I have seen none of). Sadly you're always gonna get over-confident idiot supporters.

Personally I wasn't amongst the 'born to rule' group. On paper, with both teams playing their best, I had Hawthorn having the best chance of winning, but at no point did I think it was a case of turn up and take the cup home. As evidenced by the result, in the GF and during the season, Sydney were/are a quality side.

Bitterness? Stupidity?

I thought the '08 and '12 GFs were opposite sides of the same coin. In '08 Geelong were the better team home & away, but failed to perform on the big day against a red-hot Hawthorn. Similarly, Hawthorn performed better this season but Sydney made the most of the opportunity that counted.

I have to say I love the fact that so many Geelong supporters are still bitter about '08 and cling to the claim that they lost it and Hawthorn fluked a flag. Fools!

I agree. I think it was an epic match between two really good sides...both evenly matched with their strengths and weakness. It's just people were treating this like Geelong vs Port in 2007..not all but a lot of people were predicting a similar outcome..which was insulting to the swans as those who bothered to watch them all year would have known that there was no way the swans were about to let a blow out happen in the GF.

Really? For the prelim final many Hawks supporters were overconfident but after that scare most expected it to be a tough hard fought game

It's only a minority on here who are just letting out their anger by posting rubbish. All the Hawk supporters I've come across have been great & full of praise & respect at how we won it. A few of them seem in shock but still full of praise. With all due respect, when a team boasts such players as Buddy, Roughy, Hodge, Mitchell & Rioli, well that's a tough ask to beat.

Are you kidding?

Did you not see the two Sydney / Hawks games during the season? The second one (where Sewell won it off his boot in the final couple of minutes) was an absolute nailbiter and I was pretty gutted when you guys rolled Collingwood (who I thought we had the measure of). Anyone who watched those home and away matches would've known that we were in for a close fight.

Get him to demand that he is going to Hawthorn and nowhere else, so that they have to accept our first round pick and some player not in our best 22 ;)
Yeah, players usually "demand" to be traded back to a club that doesn't want them and is willing to discard a father-son pick after he showed more promise than most draftees do.
