Some high profile activity is currently undertaken in Katanning to foster multiculturalism due mainly to the significant population of Muslims. That in itself has the potential to assist in the reconciliation process for the longer term locals, but it has also added fuel to the mix in the past. They have some very shameful history only now coming out about how the hostel facilities were run, and plenty more in the past in places like Marribank. Unfortunately it has touched the lives of all races and the whole place needs some serious healing. In my view, if it is achievable at all, it will take multiple generations.
That town has so many problems, a really terrible history.

Really interesting discussion guys :thumbsu: As a white person I know almost nothing about Aboriginal culture (embarassingly so really) and nothing experience wise, pretty sheltered really. Goes well with my soft hands too.;)
My hands are soft these days. Goes with being a bean counter. :)

The whole Muslim dynamic makes Katanning a facinating place to see what pans out after what has come out of late.
The Muslim community are quite large, but mostly invisible amongst the rest of the mix. Lived next door to a Muslim family there, not a boo was seen by anybody, quiet as a Mosque mouse.

All said, there are still a lot of really nice people in KTown, but the racism runs extremely deep, and is sprouted by the adolescents. The barred up windows on most buildings tell the tale of a wild past.

The super town money could have made a difference, but a lot has evaporated into consultants pockets. The gold mine is also apparently not a goer.

They do have the largest covered saleyards in the Southern hemisphere though.

That's the reality of the costs of doing business in the bush. Expertise costs a premium whenever there is any travel. Money barely touches the areas it needs to.

I haven't heard anything about Josh for a while now, he hasn't played wafl since round 9 and isn't on the injury list so wondering whether he is still there.

Can any of the regular training reporters confirm that Josh is still training with the club? salim malik gaskin Harry Reems couldhavebeen

He is not at the club at the moment and I don't think he will be for the rest of the season.

Fremantle’s Josh Simpson will take an unspecified leave of absence from the club, effective immediately.

General manager of football operations Chris Bond said the leave of absence would allow the 20-year-old to undertake a personal development program.

Simpson’s program has been structured to address both personal and professional matters outside of football, and includes guidelines and protocols that he must strictly adhere to.

The personal development program will be overseen by the club and involve the AFL Players’ Association, Simpson’s management and external counsellors and experts.

Fremantle has not set a time frame for his leave of absence.

I think the club made a decision regarding him a while ago. Whether that be to delist him, rookie him or give him one more chance; we won't know until the end of the season. But I don't think it looks good.

I reckon Josh will remain on the senior list for 2015.
Those of us who have read about what it is like from learned posters on BF will appreciate the huge "mountains" Josh will need to overcome to succeed in the AFL.
the fact that he has perservered is testament to his character.
we all agree that he has talent.
we all want him to succeed.
he does have issues with achieving that success & we all have seen that.
the potential upside is great.

and

there will be movement in the squad.
McPharlin may well retire if we win the flag.
players rated in the 23 onward position who miss out COULD chase opportunity
players from the eastern states, especially outside the best 22 could want to go home, however thankfully we have some South Aussies on the list & who would want to go there :p

I'm prepared to bet something (not too much money) that Josh Simpson will remain on the main list for 2015.
any takers?

BTW I have no contacts at the club so it is based on my thoughts only.

That's a stretch

If we keep him on the list, I'd hope we delist him then pick him up in the rookie draft. No club outside of WA will touch him, WCE wouldn't want to get involved knowing that hes already struggling.....rookie him if we keep him.

If the club thinks it's necessary to delist him due to his poor attitude then why would they rookie him. It would defeat the purpose of delisting him.

True, I'll just trying to find a way to keep him on the list lol. If hes not up to it, delist him, harsh but needs to happen.
