I think they can have a positive contribution to the team and possibly help teach the young players of some of the pitfalls of being an AFL footballers.
If they have the desire to return then anything is possible.

true but thats 2 spots that we cant use on further developing 2 new kids that could be the next swan as far as taken with a late pick and developed over a number of years

obviously its good the club is standing by those 2 boys but id rather not see those 2 spots go to waste.

and if they want to become glorified social workers and go around warning and teaching kids abouts pitfuls and collect a nice cheque from the club outside the salary cap id be all for that

Watch out for this kid, he is a gun and I love his work.
If he has a clean pre season and has a solid NAB cup expect huge leaps in 2013.

We know what we get with Keeffe and Thomas. AFL proven players with at least 4-5 years left in their careers at worst. In a supposed shallow draft, could we really have expected better than that with rookie selections?

Also i have a feeling these 2 will feel very grateful towards the club and work extra hard and do above and beyond anything the club expects of them. They will hopefully leave no stone unturned in their training, preparation etc. They are also a real life example to other young players of what can happen with wrong decisions. You can educate players as much as you want but until they see the ramifications, do they actually listen?

I honestly see this decision as a win/win for the club and players involved.

Cut the guy some slack...he was suffering from an undiagnosed (at the time) degenerative disease..try and catch some of his early games if you really want to see how good he could've been...
