Because:

1. He hasn't been played in defence at senior level yet.
2. He hasn't shown he's even up to senior standard yet in any position.
3. He isn't even playing defence in the VFL at the moment. Others are and are doing it better.
4. An argument was put forward than he can replace Lonergan. Which right now is ludicrous. In 12 months' time it might not be.

He might make it. Great. He might make it as a defender, which would be great too. But right now there are others ahead of him.

Yep, and at the same age as Walker is now Harry Taylor, Lonergan, Mooney and Brown as examples would carry each of those 4 criteria the same way as Walker does today.

I am still waiting for you to actually make a point in this discussion?

Not interested in you cut and pasting other people's points into this one either :thumbsu:
Not sure why you make reference to them like they have something to do with something I have said.

Easy. Next year if he's to get a game it has to be as a forward.

Also, you said Taylor looked more like a forward at Walker's age. When was this exactly, because he was a defender from day one for Geelong (Round 2, 2008), and looked right at home there immediately.

Hawkins showed more in his first 2 games than Walker has in total so far. That's the difference. We had seen Hawkins play well - very well - in the seniors. Walker hasn't done that so far.

Walker has played 10 games, and shouldn't have been thrown in to the deep end in the last one. Bit too soon to shoot him yet.

I would prefer him as a forward next year also, still not really on the point I was making P :thumbsu:

When we drafted Taylor, he had been played regularly as a lead up forward in the WAFL that year.

Never said he should. I'm saying Hawkins showed much more early in his career. Which he did.

to be honest, I can't remember Hawkins first 10 games that well. The only player that I can recall showing a lot in their first ten games was Selwood.

The 3 clear ones were 3 on debut against Carlton (Rd 2), 4 against Melbourne the following week (Rd 3), and 4 in the massacre of Richmond in Rd 6. The lack of fitness started to bite after that unfortunately.

The thing is Daz, how the hell is he going to get to 50 games?

For him to even get to 30 in the next 2 years 2 or 3 of Hawkins, Vardy, McIntosh, Blicavs, Simpson, Taylor, Lonergan have to get LTI's
And I bloody hope that doesn't happen.

I think its reasonable to suggest that Vardy, Mcintosh, Blitz and Simpson will not play every game in the next 2 to 3 years. He could take a spot vacated by any one of them - although I feel KPF is his best calling.

i agree it will be a task to get games into all those who are worthy but he should, and will be, high on that list.

And please, no more talk of LTI's…..

GO Catters

I personally hope Blitz doesn't play any games next year...
And I really really hope we never see Walker in the ruck because it means we have bloody injuries

Bobby he isn't a good enough footballer to walk into best 22 and if our ruck situation wasn't horrid this season he wouldn't have played a game.

So i hope the players we need playing stay fit.. because if he doesnt play... we will have better players in the key positions and will be a better team...

and Blitz can spend a year in the 2s and maybe develop his game

maybe, I think he developed that quickly in only one season that this bloke will take us all by surprise again next season so I can't see him getting pushed out of the side to be honest.

Well he is still a rookie... so he really shouldn't even start the year in the side

THP please don't use well crafted facts to support your argument it only confuses P

Probably will be upgraded due to the LTI to Menzel and then at the mid season be upgraded again.

I expect that Blitz will get a few games at senior level in 2014.

He may well get games I agree..... my point was I hope he doesn't play many... Because that means we have healthy big men

Which will also mean Walker doesn't get a game. Correct?

Walker will probably play round 1.

Won't surprise me if Hawkins is eased back into it. Pods is gone.

Wasn't Walker tipped to play round 1 this year when we were struggling with rucks but Blicavs got the nod instead.

If Hawkins is out, but they H. Mac Simpson, Vardy, Kersten and Blicavs available then he might still be behind them depending on the make up of the team. His best chance might be if we are struggling with rucks also and they need to play Vardy primarily as a ruck.

Agree with all that, but after just turning 21 big guys start to improve and Walker might too in the pre-season.

If you were picking the side now and they were all fit, I agree with others and you he isn't in the best 22.

Yep. And if all the big guys have good pre-seasons, we could have a lovely rare scenario of having options to choose from instead of shuffling deck chairs.
