In that case, it was a lose-lose situation, we haven't gained anything with Harding and the Dockers haven't gained anything with Metro this year

From memory, we gave them Metro and got Harding+a draft pick.

So I'd have to say we came out on top, because even though Harding has been useless, the pick(regardless what we used it on) must of come in handy.

Shame about Metro leaving though, he would have been in the team until at least end of 2002. Though through his absence we have been able to blood some half-decent defenders.

There you are, thats how we got all our new players for this season.

Vis

Cheers Vis - all that draft trading work sure sounds complicated. Got any idea what players Number 21, 27, 51 and 57 were in the draft?

Draft looks ok in hindsight,

we traded

Gehrig for Sierakowski and Kerr (18) - Sira was unlucky and will hopefulyy contribute next year, Kerr is the best pick all season and I think should win the Rising star award!

Pick 21 (Nick Ries?) for Taylor and Collica - both of these two have been great this year - they both try all the time.

Metro for Harding and Dion Woods (51) - this seems a dud trade - Harding hasnt done much and has been injured.

White for Prior (27), Carroll(45), Merenda(57) - great trade as all three have put in - Prior was good until he unluckily did his knee, Carroll has improved with every game, as has Merenda who is a real goalkicker when fit.

What do you guys think - not bad in the end...

personally i think we did well too
the only stuff up, was giving up pick 27 for prior
i didnt like it when it happened
still dont :p
they took ted richards wtih that pick
the most impressive player not to attend the draft camp (injury)
and guess what, he plays chf and chb very well, already made his debut wtih essendon and was on almost football legends for an awesome pack mark he took

I agree, a much better year than the last few. Collica has been pretty damn good for us this year and should do well in our B&F. Taylor and Prior have both contributed as has Merenda in patches.

Carroll was a great pick up and hopefully will do even better fo us as the weeks go on. The only real duds so far have been Seira and Harding, not Seira's fault and hopefully he will be back next year and contribute but Harding isnt even able to break into the team.

Back to the topic. Wooden played very well today, and has really turned his career around. I don't know whether we should keep him, or use him as trade bait, as he would be getting increasingly more likely to be wanted by another club.

Wooden did allright today. To be trade bait he will have to continue his good form for another club to be willing to give something up. If no deal eventuates and with the changes in the list not looking like they will eventuate, maybe we should keep him. His disposal has improved and his goal today was good as well.

On our new players to the club this year. All our draft picks look like they may come off. Kerr has been fantastic, Carroll is rapidly becoming a good defender, Humm has shown in the WAFL and his couple of games in the AFL that he is a good midfielder of flanker and McDougall is starting to work his way into form.

On the players we traded, Sierra never got a chance to show himself, Merenda has been good, Prior was good till injured, Taylor has been very good, Collica very good also, Harding disappointing and Wilson good in his patches. On those on the rookie list, Buszan looks the goods, McCarrey has shown patches, Miller has been average but consistent (though probably wont make the AFL) and Beeck could still come good after his injury.

Overall, not a bad year for picking up players by the club.

Vis

I think he would be more useful if he was kept. Trading him would at best get us a couple 3rd rnd picks. We wouldn't get a pick inside the top 30.

This is mainly because he is not a key position player and will never be a match winner. He is and always be a 2nd tier player. Not the kind of player teams will give good draft picks for. So he's better of being kept and used in a support role than being traded for pick #45 where we will pick up another wooden just 4yrs and 50 games less experienced.

Maybe we should keep him on as a player to be a back up, who won't necessarily be in our top side, but be a player to get in for an out of form, or injured player! Otherwise I can't see him getting in, even though he is now showing good form.

I think we should keep him. We wouldnt get much for him just because he has played 4 or 5 good games in a row, the scouts will know his past and that in 4 years of footy has only managed 50 games.

I say keep him as he seems to be turning the corner and hopefully will become a regular and be able to contribute week in week out maybe even on the scoresheet. On the others, Carroll, Collica and Taylor have all been really good for us this year and Merenda has been particularly good the last couple of games. He is lively on half forward, creates a contest and today took ten marks so all in all a good year. Lets hope we can back it up with another good trading and drafting year this year.
