And we could have picked both

This is the answer. Doedee was one of our most important players. Would have been an enormous call to move him on for Worrell at that stage, but surely there was an option to play both.

We could have, pretty sure there’s audio or a quote somewhere of us saying both can’t play.

We had a small window of about 2 weeks at the end of 2022 where we did play both (though Doedee struggled against the small forwards), however, we drafted someone by the name of Michalanny which scuppered that plan in 2023.

Seemingly, the thing was we never wanted Worrell matched up on the oppositions KPFs, which is something that's remained constant to this day.

Came directly from a senior official to someone close to me when they were trying to justify Worrell not getting picked.

A couple of weeks later Doedee succumbed to his injury, Worrell played, Doedee returned and they played together. Then Doedee went for surgery

We played Doedee and Kelly nearly every single game together in 2021

Then in 2022 even after Kelly left, we played Frampton in defense for a period. And Parnell and Hamill. And Luke Brown got injured mid season. There was no shortage of spots in defense.

And we could have picked both
So many of us said it at the time & our defence fuctioned fine on the few occasions they did play together.

That video shows there was a bit going on at Showdown. Watching on TV, the Port forward line were constantly holding on, shepherding, flopping for frees etc - all the little things that an umpire could squash if they were paying attention. I think that's the reason Wozza gave him one after the tackle and it may also be the reason why there was a bit of flopping from us as well - sometimes you have to make the maggots pay attention.
