Driving home tonight I had to listen to Mark Robinson (SEN) complaining on behalf of supporters about how the St Kilda late changes cost him a tip last week. He had a whinge on behalf of all us supporters and gamblers saying "Oh , it's so unfair!".

Earlier in the week Mike Sheahan is scathing about how the AFL allows such changes as St Kilda's last weekend. Complaining about how it impacts all stakeholders of the game.

For mine, instead of complaining on our behalf these two should be apologising to all supporters and gamblers for not being able to keep us up to date earlier with these changes.

It's amazing that these clowns are paid very healthy salaries to provide up to the minute exclusive knowledge on the game yet can't crack it to let us know that Clarke and Gram could be late withdrawals on the weekend. Teams have regular sessions during the week: recoveries, training and match fitness. If a bloke is in doubt they should be able to let us know. They seem to be able to get the dirt when someone's doing drugs or someones got a court case or someones been on the pi$$ last weekend but they can't even provide us with all the information possible for us to complete our tips.

Instead of seeing Hutchie chase someone through a carpark to get a 3 word interview that adds nothing to a story I'd rather him sit there (on TFS) whilst they put the teams up and say "That selection is bullarky, he's got a hammie" or "That guy is still doubtful, he hasn't trained all week". How handy would that be?

When journalists complain about things like this it makes me realise how fortunate they are to be paid to be professionals when all they are interested in is chasing gossip and reporting on immaterial stories.

All-clear on Saints' changes

ST KILDA will not be sanctioned for making four changes to its line-up before Saturday night's game against Hawthorn.

AFL spokesman Patrick Keane said the Saints had not broken any rules as they had informed the league of two of those changes 24 hours before the game, while the other two were within guidelines.

After submitting its team on Thursday night, St Kilda informed the AFL and Hawthorn on Friday that Matthew Clarke and Clinton Jones were out and two emergencies had been added.

However, on Saturday night when the team sheets were produced, the Saints had also left out key players Xavier Clarke and Jason Gram.

"Under the AFL rules you are allowed to have 22 players with three emergencies and you have until 45 minutes before the match to finalise your team," Keane said.

"If they had taken any player from outside the 25 then they would have been fined.

"But in this case on the Friday St Kilda informed the AFL, Hawthorn and all the media of two changes to its line-up."

Punters have argued that the Saints should have also come clean about Xavier Clarke and Gram earlier than 45 minutes before the bounce.

However according to the AFL, clubs are within their rights to do whatever they like with their squad of 25.

"At this point we have not altered our rules," Keane said. "We are running a football competition and for anyone who wants to bet, the teams are always declared 45 minutes before the match."

Who cares about the journos??

Late changes are killing my dream team picks:thumbsdown:
That was the point they were making. Footy clubs keep up with this crap of not releasing information to the public about changes until the very last minute. The stupid thing about this is their opposition have known about the changes for some time, so they are only fooling their own supporters. Just goes to show where the paying public sit as a priority to their own clubs.

i love it when sheahan claims to represent the footballing public, and is "outraged" on our behalf at the lack of respect that clubs are showing "us" (ie him)

his article was one of the worst displays of misplaced self importance i have seen for a long time.

It's annoying when they do this sh!t but at the end of the day they aren't breaking any rules.

Sheedy has been pulling this junk for years.
Yeah, it was always a bit of a lark to fool the opposition who knew better than anyone what was going on anyway. Bit of a laff,

However, as a punter, I'd be a little bit letigious if Freedy saddled up Makbe Diva in the cup knowing full well she was lame or wasn't capable of running to her potential.

If you are a ''serious'' punter you will have done your own homework and factored emergencies into your selections. If you are a supporter you will ''tip'' your team 95% of the time and changes dont mean a thing to you

Sounds like Robbo might've been the one that was laughed at by other journos at Ross Lyon's press conference on monday.

I gave up years ago reading the tripe that comes out of the media. I find the only place once can find some true and factual information is on the internet and perhaps Football weekly.

At the end of the day, the clubs have as much right to complain about the mis-reporting in the media. Mabye late changes are a way the clubs get back at the media.

I don't give a sheet if players are replaced at the last hour, I am not stupid enough to bet on sport.

Those who "invest" their money in gambling only have themselves to blame if they lose - stop trying to pass the buck on your lame habit.

Yes, it's annoying from a tipping perspective (or for getting your dreamteam right)...

... but at the end of the day, I want teams to be fielding their best possible players. If a player is listed on Thursday, but pulls up sore by match day, I don't want to see him forced to take the field. How stupid would that be? A team forced to play an injured player because of some bullshit rule just to make it easier for tippsters!

The point is clubs naming players that they know are not going to play. This cannot continue, particularly if the AFL wants to keep raking in the dollars from agreements with betting agencies. They need to be more accountable to how information on team selections is provided to the public.

But dammit my dreamteam is never going to be how i want it if i can't get a read on what selections are going to be!! :(
