Not at all. Not even saying we believe different things.

I was just hoping the Big Guy might be more concerned with say the impending Middle East war or something rather than a Crows rookie's delisting or Aaron Baddeley's golf handicap.

Something tells me that Nick and I wouldn't get along. I'm of the opinion that people can believe whatever they want, and fully support religious freedom. However, I myself am not religious in the slightest, and can not stand people trying to force their beliefs down my throat.

But I think if you look carefully at the words quoted, the words are 'sharing the truth' not beating people over the head with them or forcing them down their throats. And thats his truth just as you have yours. He then simply talks about why this is important to him.

And thats OK with me - as woopedazz says - 'whatever floats your boat'.

Look his faith is his own and should be respected no doubt, particularly as it seems to be getting him through this difficult period for him. I do think that quoting scripture and talking about nonbelievers in an interview is a bit over the top though.
Should we have prayer rooms and chapels available for players or anyone else. Absolutely. Do I want Christians, Muslims, Hindus and any other religions in the club? Absolutely. Should they ram religion down our throat? I think not.

I don't think he is ramming it down anyone's throat. Its simply a declaration of personal faith. He's entitled to share his faith as you are yours (or lack of it). And IMO sharing personal faith is a brave thing to do in such a secular society, given the criticism people of faith are subject to - and this thread is a demonstration of that.

But if you saw it differently than I'm happy to agree to disagree. A question of perspective - and faith. :)
 
I have no problem with his faith. I cringe when I see people express it in twitter/facebook, but no worries with people using whatever they need.

Me - I'm hoping to God we don't take him earlier than the PSD.

He was a roughly last year who has so far proven he may have been a softhearted Rendell misstep.

Yep he was roughy last year, but the club must have seen something that may not be obvious to us - yet. And I hope they pick him back up as quickly as possible. And as I've just said in the Tippett thread in response to Juzzo's comment about what is driving the club to re-draft him before someone else does (the ALFPA or so far hidden talent):

And a reasonable fear on the part of the club - enough to drive them to pick him up again as quickly as possible - and if that means an ND draft pick then so be it.

IMO its also simply the right thing to do - to put the kid out of the uncertainty around his future as quickly as possible - particularly since, like Jesse White, he is a completely innocent victim of the Tippett mess.

Fair enough. Just a bit too fire and brimstonish for me but I'll accept he's brave and may cop a bit of ribbing from his team mates.

Plus we may need all the help we can get if this gets any uglier!

And I wonder if your 'fire and brimstone' button isn't just a bit too sensitive!! LOL!! ;) One Bible quote on Twitter isn't the definition of 'fire and brimstone' for me. In fact, he chose a pretty tame verse as well! ;)

But you're right - he is brave to declare his faith in an environment such as the AFL. But I'm sure he'll survive... what doesn't kill you makes you stronger... in his case in more ways than one! :D

My experience is that 'sharing the truth' is only ever expected to be a one way thing. They don't particularly like it when you try to share some truth back...suddenly then it's a no-go zone...

The quote was from a Christian magazine. The article took quotes from the magazine and his tweet. They did not interview him.

As a Christian I am happy to see a footballer giving glory to God and speaking freely about his beliefs. I loved his tweet. :)

That's fair enough then. I thought it was a bit OTT in the Sunday Mail but if those quotes came from a magazine who would expect stuff like that then fair enough.

Doesn't say much for the Sunday Mail though. Surely today's journos are capable of picking up a phone, calling the kid and getting some fresh quotes? Or is that too much to ask?

Apparently not. They made an article from a previous article. What's the rule of thumb? It needs to be 10% different or something like that? :p So that's where the tweet came in. I guess a lot of people wouldn't have seen the Christian magazine article so they saw a story there... Lol, I dont know. Not good journalism but I enjoyed the article.

It's beyond 'not good journalism' mate. It's completely crap, lazy journalism. Rule of thumb? How about go and get your own stories Sunday Mail. It's not like you're running on a daily deadline or anything. You've got a whole week to put something - anything - on paper.

Speaking as an ex-journo myself, the amount of plagiarism that goes on these days disguised as news is just breathtaking.

Hahaha :D Agreed. I understand the rant, lol. The rule of thumb line was tongue in cheek. I'm not surprised people thought he said that to the Sunday Mail as people expect more from journos. But the article clearly indicates that the quotes were from RISE Magazine.
