Sorry but it is an option. The reality is no-one else will take him, he's not that good to be honest.

Boulderdash. Ignoring any dispute over how much you know about him at all, it became pretty clear that other clubs were interested in taking him with a later pick when, after consultation, he withdrew from the National Draft and went into the PSD instead. A second year, second round player forced out by other circumstance rather than his own fault, he wouldn't stand the remotest chance of reaching pick #16 in the rookie draft.

I have seen him play and the best I can say is he goes OK, and don't forget was the sacrificial lamb for our club which means he's the lowest rated player on our list. The reason he went to the PSD was to give us another pick in the national draft rather than to protect him.

Look I agree the club will almost certainly pick him up in the PSD on compassionate grounds, but I have no doubt he'd still be there for our rookie pick.

We'd lose a lot more in sending him to the rookie draft than we would gain by upgrading our picks slightly. What we would lose would be the goodwill of the playing group who would see a player, who most of them presumably like, get treated like dirt as a result of the sins of the administration.

It's an option, yes, in the sense that it's possible. But it won't happen.

Interesting that by redrafting Joyce in the PSD we have to offer him a new 2 year standard contract

Would be better on a 1 year rookie contract ...but i agree last thing we want to do now is lose goodwill with the playing group

5 days to go

Suffice it to say, if Nick Joyce is not on our list next year, that will be the most heinous "crime" that has been committed in this whole fiasco. Clubs actually have genteleman's agreements on this stuff, so all should be ok..... Oh wait............o_O

No we don't.

Hope to see Joyce back on our list asap. Couldn't care less if he's religious (don't really see what that has to do with anything). Nothing stinks more than a young guy like that having his chance at an AFL career taken away in circumstances like this. Leaves a bad taste in everyone's mouths.

No we don't.
Why? .....he's treated same as any other draftee now

We delisted him ....and i guess we would have had to pay out 12 months of his remaining contract as well ?

He was lucky to get drafted and lucky not to be cut .
But most unfortunate to be delisted in way was but then noticed players got cut late last week so really not a lot of difference.
But certainly would hope does not have to be signed for another 2 years as too many in that category already and still have to provide same number of players in draft and room for any free agency which you would think a priority next season.
If cant make hard decision on Trigg do not expect will do so here to make him a rookie and grab a good PSD pick

If we re-draft him then he effectively goes back onto his previous contract, which still has 12-months left to run.

How so ???
you're delisted a year early and paid out ? and redrafted on a new contract

How is it possible to continue an existing contract .......is there an AFL ruling?

The key rule here is 4.6 (as taken from the AFL Player Rules 2011 document):
4.6 Minimum Contract Term for Certain Players
When a First Year Draft Choice Player is first listed by an AFL Club, that Player and the AFL Club shall enter into a playing contract for a minimum term
of two AFL Seasons except in the case of a Player who has previously been listed as a Rookie at any AFL Club or the Player will be 23 years or over as at
the 31st day of December immediately following the most recent National Draft Selection Meeting.
So.. only 1st year draft choice players need to be offered a 2-year contract. There is nothing in that paragraph which indicates that a 2nd year player needs to be offered a 2-year contract.

:D had to read the paragraph a few times before the light switched on .......correct as usual ;)

Can someone tell me a bit more about this kid? Have to admit I don't really know much about him.

Why exactly was he on the Crows list? Was he actually a good enough player? I heard he was a mascot or something or that his mum or aunt worked at the Crows ... something or other?

All I know is he was drafted by the Crows, then had to be delisted because of Tippett, then was re-drafted and now he's delisted again. That's all I know. Nothing in between. No reports of him being a standout player in the SANFL or anything to justify him taking up a spot on the list for those couple of years.

Are you 100% sure on this ?

Yes. Although I feel you might not realise that that post was from 2012 and 'next year' was referring to 2013.

Joyce was contracted for 2012 & 2013, we delisted him at the end of 2012. If we hadn't have relisted him, we still would have had to pay him (and include it in the cap) for 2013.

No, his contract expires this year. From last year's perspective; It's the quirk of the de-listing system that they are still on the list until the PSD. If picked up then the new contract takes over (and the Crows pay out any difference), if not we pay out the contract. Since we picked him up we effectively take him on his existing contract, for the remainder. We may have had to get him to sign a new contract, but it would have been for the same money and for 1 year.

His uncle got me into a team up in Barossa light league eons ago.
His cousin, I think, played teal cup back in the day and due to injuries never quite kicked on.
Footy talent in the family - not quite sure why he didn't make it. Probably just want quite good enough.
