Judd will be fined the most for last nights quarter time highjinx. Cant say I agree with it. The official wording is Judd instigated the melee.

http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/tabid/208/newsid/113514/default.aspx

Carlton captain Chris Judd has been hit hardest with two fines; he can accept $1800 for instigating the melee, and then a further $1200 for partaking.

How do you instigate a group melee? Hold guns to all involved heads and order them to melee? If so fair cop, otherwise Judd can only be charged with his specific role with the players he tangled with, all the rest is nothing to do with him.

The above is not enough for a dedicated thread. But the other news is Montagna will get at least a week for his bump on the clearly already injured Curnow.

I thought it was disgusting. I didnt like it when Roo copped it from Brisbane a few years ago and I still dont. Its gutless. Akin to kicking a bloke whilst he is down.

Am sure there will be some here that disagree, if so lets debate it.

And does Judds fine mean he is ineligible for the pointless medal they hand out each year?

Also, thank god he's still eligible for the brownlow, wouldn't wanna miss this again:

wrote this on bay 13, geez its a kindergarden there dont know why I bother to read it sometimes (usually dont!). Its in response to what happened to Curnow.

Judd should get a medal rather than a fine, he was doing what any other decent Australian would do. I would have personally lamped the coward!

to all the jerk offs who do not think its a dog act just because it happened to a Carlton player, I really do wonder what your reaction would have been if it was one of your players?

Fair enough its a physical game but if a Carlton player did that I would feel embarrassed to follow them. Its just simply un-australian. You do not kick someone when they are down.

The only Australian thing outta all of that rubbish was that Curnow took it like an Australian ... we are a f**king hard breed us Aussies ... we have to make sure that cry baby Roo doesn't have any children and pollute the gene pool!

Pretty sure Judd wipes his backside with gold. Do they take gold down at the subscription offices?

On a side note would people be against the money from melee's going to some form of charity? The AFL surely wouldn't budget melee fines into their reports so they aren't losing any kind of profit or revenue. Just thought it would be a good idea....

This game has turned into a sport for girls. It wasn't even a melee, just a little bit of push and shove.

can't believe they copped fines for that. pathetic.

I find it funny that he got $1800 for instigating the melee and then $1200 for partaking in it.

I would have thought if he had instigated it, he was always going to be partaking in it. Seems to be doubling up to me

Unless he ran in started the melee then runs away. Sounds like something Montagna would do.

Judd can pay the fine with the spare cash in his ashtray. Plus he can still win the Brownlow. Go blues.

Its a joke they claim Judd started it, quarter time running to the huddle in the middle of a bunch of girls he bumps one, bumps two as happens every week and a third girl grabs him by the jumper....that is what started it, if that 3rd girl had not done that it wouldn't have flared.

AFL joke of the year and the umpires last not couldn't control a dead cat

I guess the guy that makes Twigley's sandwiches loses his week's pay.

Out of curiosity, what happens to the money made through these melee's?

Well my take from where I was sitting is Kosi started it he started bumping curnow and it all started from there, when the push and shove began they targeted juddy....they went for him big time and good on him for making a stand and setting the example..awesome, I;ll chip in no worries :thumbsu:

Just trying to make juddy throw a punch...

Take the 3k on the chin I reckon. When I saw Judd charge in from a few metres away and bump Gilbert with the forearm in the back, and then the melee ensued, I knew Judd would get done for inciting it.

I'm not sure that he was going after Gilbert over Curnow either. As we saw early in the game, Judd had popped some agro pills when it came to Gilbert. Plenty of niggle between the two.

As soon as Judd went after Gilbert I knew Juddy was adding to his CV. He was saying to the Saints that Carlton would not take any crap and he was leading from the front. That Curnow and Murphy copped further crap later in the first quarter just fired Juddy up for more aggro. I thought it was great and I hope we see more of it.

By all reports Gilbert was setting a new Australian standard in illegal shepherding well off the ball, and pretty much preventing Judd from even getting near a contest.

Judd got absolutely nothing from the umps on a night where he received by far the worst off-the-ball treatment in ages. Same goes for Murphy.

Umpires are getting keen to prove Judd isn't a favourite imo. Was always only a matter of time.

This.
Judd has tough battles every week, but how often does he loose his temper? Yesterday, and the Fremantle game last year.
Anyone notice a trend?
