Completely hypothetical question: Would you trade Riewolt for Judd in a straight swap?

There is only a few players West Coast would consider in a straight swap & they have to be gun forwards - Roo, Brown, Pav.

My view is West Coast can cover Judd in the middle even though he is a legend & need a gun forward desperately. Judd at any club is a plus but does that leave too big a hole in the Saints forward line.

Does it come down to a Key forward is worth more than a gun midfielder?

Completely hypothetical answer : yes

(Judd would be great - but losing Riewoldt would be terrible - oh well, only a hypothetical question !)

Re: Judd for Riewolt

Absolutely

B: S.Fisher, Hudghton, L.Fisher
HB: Gram, Maguire, Goddard
C: Dal Santo, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Harvey, Koschitzke, X.Clarke
F: Gilbert, Gehrig, Milne

Foll: Gardiner, Ball, Judd
Int: Baker, Brooks, R.Clarke, Fiora

Wouldn't lose a game if we could keep that team on the park

I bet West Coast thought they wouldn't lose against the lions too.

I would swap, but West Coast would be mad too. They need a key position forward taht can kick lots of goals. Until Roo sorts that out, he is not on a straight swap level with Judd.

After tonight's performance I would actually be quite hesitant. When in form and getting good delivery Roo is more influential than Judd. If he can improve his goalkicking then he might be a better player overall.

Re: Judd for Riewolt

So we'd have Ball and Judd with OP, and lose arguably the best KPP in the comp? Judd has lost a stack of value this year.

Re: Judd for Riewolt

12 months ago Judd was the greatest thing ever, now he is nothing. What a joke! He is still the best player in the comp, and I would do that trade in a flash. We have tall forwards that we can bring in instead of Riewoldt. They are certainly not up to his standard but they are better than our fringe midfielders. Watts, Brooks, Kosi can all play CHF and with Fraser hopefully still around next year, he can be covered for. With Harvey poised to hang up the boots at the end of the season, we become pressed for quality midfielders. Who will come into the middle when Harvey retires? Currently we have this as our midfield brigade: Dal Santo, Ball, Hayes, Harvey, Montagna, Baker. Harvey gone next year, BJ could step in to the middle but that still leaves us with only six that can cut the mustard. We have others but they either aren't ready or don't look like they can play midfield. Judd would give us what we need. The added depth that would allow us to keep BJ at half back and still have the Fiora's and the like to come off the bench, instead of being forced to start on the ground.

Re: Judd for Riewolt

While there is no doubting that Judd is the premium midfielder of the AFL and probably is the best player in the comp. It must be recognised that the difference between the best midfielder and a good midfielder isn't that much - it might not lose you a match, whereas replacing Riewoldt with a lesser KPP will impact more significantly on the result.

No... Riewoldt is a saint through and through... Let's keep him here. This is explained more in the post "Who would you give up Dal Santo for?"

Besides, while I think Ball's had a shocking few years because of his OP etc, I think with the new fitness regime (did you all read the article about that at realfooty.com.au? We've got a cracker-jack fitness team signed up for next year!), he'll be back to his best in 2008. And as far as I'm concerned, a fit Ball will beat a fit Judd every day of the week and twice on Sundays.

WC can keep Judd.
