with the help of hindsight allowing us to see what couldve happened, which option would u prefer. I know we all wanted judd at all costs, but cotchin (potentially a great player) and rance who is showing spirit and courage have turned out to be our best crop of draftees in recent times.

If u could take back time, would u have judd or the 07 boys?

(for those who dont know we offered WC these 2 draft picks for a judd trade)

I'd rather two picks with a lot of potential than an excellent player who has already peaked - but either option would have gone down well with me.

Judd would have been a massive boost to our club culture (same as he has been at Carlton). Could have been our captain and stopped this bullshit mediocrity that has dogged us for 2 decades.

That said, I am happy with Cotchin and Rance. Our young midfield of Deledio, Cotchin, Foley, Coughlan, Tambling and Jackson (with Cousins) are starting to show a bit of flair now. Will be next year when we really know how good they are. As a group they will begin to dominate games.

It's actually Judd's leadership, personality and character that makes this an interesting question.

i think we did well to keep the picks. cotch could be anything and actually, so could rance. a couple more years and judd will be on the decline and our two boys just coming into their prime.

We did Judd the biggest favour and in turn did ourselves a favour.
Bascially his smarts on where he should go, made our dumbness look smart in not getting him. ;)

definetely cotchin and rance on pure age alone.

both of them have twice the amount of time left in their careers than judd has.

judd has already peaked at his west coast days while cotchin and rance have years of their best football ahead of them.

judd would have won us a few games this year and the next couple.

cotchin and rance could win us games for the next decade.

hey,

the trade was actually gonna be pick 2, 18 and 19, but after judd went to the blues we traded pick 19 to dogs for mcmahon

so we really got cotchin, rance and mcmahon instead of judd

mm.. it sounds worse when you put it like that :o

Cotch and Rance..... based on the facts that, Cotch will be the next Gary ablett jnr, and Rancy because he is going to be the next Tom Harley you heard it first:cool::thumbsu:

but Judd is an amazing player that i would of loved at Richmond

A bird in the hand or two in the bush?

If we got Judd we probably would have made finals last year and maybe this year and next, without going much further. With Cotchin and Rance we are continuing the rebuild starting from Deledio and co hoping for a sustained tilt at the top. I'd love to be making finals now rather than the perennial hope that we will in the future, but in this case I think the result for us will turn out better in the long term. We are probably now where Hawthorn were in 2004, even though many including myself thought at the time we were ahead of them.

[BTW. Whoever made up the saying about preferring a bird in the hand never had 2 in the bush. ;)]

sad to say but i have a bad feeling deledio wont be at the tigers next year :(

At the time I wanted Judd but right now, I'm really happy we kept the picks. Cotchin will be a star and Racne looks like becoming a very good player too.

I'm actually hoping Rance develops into more of a Nathan Bock type, just without the wife-beating. He's big enough and solid enough and can move too.

I would rather Judd. Best player in the comp.

1. Rance looks OK - so do a dozen other draftees from the last 2 years. One more tallish-HBF isn't going to make a huge difference to our club.

2. Cotchin is the interesting one. Yes, he looks like a future champ, and all the commentators are salivating over him, but....

- He hasn't yet had a game where he has really starred ie dominated the midfield.
- His possessions are almost all 20-30 metre chips - I'm looking for him to really create some drive out of the middle. Run, carry, kick 50+ metres.
- Hasn't stood-up big in the last quarter and kick 2-3 goals or have 10+ possessions when needed.

Now, I know all will say 'he hasn't had a proper pre-season yet' and maybe you're right - but that brings up the biggest point - is he injury-prone?

Look, I hope he does develop - as we said he looks like a superstar in the making skills-wise. Fabulous in-close skills. He's the first guy we watch for each week. He is a great prospect. But so far he looks to me like another solid 150-200 game member of the midfield.

I just haven't seen enough signs to label him a certain 'future champ'. I think he is being slightly over-rated because of his draft position.

Hopefully it's just that he's not fit yet.

Please feel free to bookmark this thread and come back to it in two years with all of you saying 'I told you so, you doubting Thomas!'. I would like nothing better.

I really, really hope I'm wrong (and I have a fine record of being wrong in the past).

Being a bit tough on Cotchin there Wallaby, I know what your point is in regards to Judd, but the man is a freak footballer. This thread is purely hypothetical, because we were never really a chance for Judd I don't think, and therefore is quite pointless.

Hopefully Cotch will flourish under a (hopefully) simpler and less stagnated team style of footy. The overuse of the short chipping shit has been an endemic problem.

Let's not get too impatient fellas, these two blokes are still wet behind the ears!

Dissapointing we didn't take Callam Ward at 19 instead of trading for Sanchez. Then it would be Rance, Cotch, Ward vs Judd. 20:20 hindsight with all of this anyway. A lot of the middle of the road clubs would probably be kicking themselves they didn't take Cuz now also.

of course at the moment we would want Judd, but if we are looking in the futer you would want these 2.

I would take Judd.
Cotch will be a great player and Rance is doing well but he's kicking is suspect at times.
Judd's elite atm and its bollocks to think he will decline in the next 3 years.
If we threw in Callum Ward in there as well i would take the 3 kids though.
How bad do you feel in the guts knowing we could've got a pick in the 20's for Shultz and Callum ward :thumbsd:
