Judd -wtf?

Spot on, my thoughts exactly. And Matthew Boyd.

Gahhh I am still SO angry!! I'm p1ssed off because I have lost so much faith in our game recently, it's actually quite depressing.

The game is supposed to evolve in a good way but it just doesn't seem to be happening.

These kind of results have been happening since day dot. 1973 anyone?

Keith Greig's first Brownlow in 1973 (Kevin Bartlett runner up) saw Tiger manager Alan Schwab almost come to blows with his North Melbourne counterpart RonJoseph. Greig who was to prove his quality in years to come failed to finish in the top five of his own club award.

Barnzy was spot on, Swan was very unlucky. Pretty sure he'll win one though, if he continues his current form. How did Brian Lake not score higher? Really is a midfielder's award these days.

Fact is, it doesn't matter who votes on such awards, there will always seem to be some bias somewhere. The award is fine as it is, as long as you see and accept it for what it is.

Swan was never going to win it and never will. Umpires are basically squares who live by the rules (regardless of the fact they have trouble implementing them half the time!!) and a bloke who wears tatts and doesn't speak a highly polished sentence is going to have a negative impact with the umps that he has to overcome before even looking like he'll get a vote. Just the way of the world folks.

eddies face = gold

Worst winner since Wowodein and Cooney (in front of Ablett in 2008).

There was a guy that wore number 12 for us that should have won it that year IMO. He stood out like Dogs Balls for most of that season and by himself turned and won games.
Lets be honest, the Brownlow has been a farce since guys like Carey and Ablett SNR never won it.

LOL Lachie Henderson gets 2 votes against us for a quarter of football including the "hanky-gate" free kick

Some weird votes last night.

How did Sylvia not get any votes against us in round 4? How was clearly BOG.
Round 13 Sydney game. O'Keefe? You have to be kidding me. Newman gets nothing.

I was just hoping for someone to beat D.Swan, I was actually r*ped when C.Judd was getting votes in the last 2-5 rounds.

That's pretty bad. You sure you don't want to report it to the police??

How the **** do you get BOG when your team loses by 9 goals? How the **** do you still get votes when a hack like McPhee towels you up? Whatever little credibility this stupid & pointless award had left was well and truly erased once and for all tonight. Disgraceful. :thumbsd:

The only thing good about the result was the look on Eddie's face...and the hope that it's an omen for raging favourites from Collingwood....:thumbsu:

How could he get off after smashing pav in the face?

This result reaks of corruption. Something carlscum is well entrenched in.

Lol, I just heard that Cuz took Andy Collins to the Brownlow :thumbsu:

(Didn't watch it last night, so hadn't seen it)

to put it all in context, according to the count, J-Pod was rated as the best KPF in the league this year by the umpires

I prefer Judd as a player to both Swan and Ablett, and to be honest i would rather he win the award than them, but not when he doesnt deserve it.

Swan clearly deserved it. There is no doubt about it. Judd getting BOG when he shouldnt have got a vote at all had me baffled.

The umpires are there to pick up indescretions, not to find favourite players and have their minds on who to vote for.

They have so little brain power as it is to give them another job to consider is asking for trouble.

Agree. Sylvia destroyed us.

But anyone calling it a joke/farce/corrupt is not looking at reality. I also wonder how many games those calling Swan's 'the most dominant season I've ever seen' actually watched. Judd dominates, Swan accumulates. And when Collingwood wins Pendlebury, Didak, Thomas, Jolly, and a host of others besides Swan, play well. When Carlton wins, Judd is almost always their best player. The Brownlow is not a vote on 'who was the best player of the year?', it's a series of votes on 'who were the best three players in this game?'.

When Judd plays well he dominates. He wins the hard ball and explodes from packs. Anyone complaining that 'Judd only got 24 touches and Swan got 37' needs to get their head out of the stat sheet and actually watch a game. I'll take 24 of Judd's possessions ahead of 37 of Swan's handball receives off half-back, 20m chip kick, run past for the handball again, handball to a teammate and get it back again.

Was Judd the best player of the year? No. But if you think that's what the Brownlow's meant to reveal/reward, you fail to understand how it works.

(Personally, I'm happy considering I got on Judd early in the season at $20, although could have had $21 on him yesterday. Also backed him for top 5 yesterday @ $2.54, Ablett for top 3 @ $1.71, Sandilands top Freo @ $1.61 and a monster of a club leader multi of Thompson/Brown/Swan/Watson/Sandi/Harvey/Jack/Hayes/Goodes/Boyd, paying $96. What a great night! :D)

Well, according to you. You seem to be in the minority.

I also wonder how many games those calling Swan's 'the most dominant season I've ever seen' actually watched.

Probably plenty.

Judd dominates, Swan accumulates.

Rubbish and a myth. Both "accumulate" the ball and both can dominate. I watched a lot of Carlton and Collingwood games this year. Swan dominated more games.

And when Collingwood wins Pendlebury, Didak, Thomas, Jolly, and a host of others besides Swan, play well.

Just means Swan's punished by not having inept teammates. Doesn't mean he wasn't the better player this year or didn't have a bigger impact.

The Brownlow is not a vote on 'who was the best player of the year?', it's a series of votes on 'who were the best three players in this game?'.

Which is why some of the legends and very best players in the game don't have one and why players like Wowodein do. Flawed system for an award that doesn't hold that much credibility anymore. MVP is much more valuable in my eyes.

When Judd plays well he dominates. He wins the hard ball and explodes from packs.

So does Swan.

I don't see anyone many people complaining about possesion tallys. Funny you see that though because Judd couldn't hit the side of the barn this year. Kicking was dreadful at times. I wouldn't exactly say his possesions were high quality.

Also funny you say Swan gets his possesions from handball receives off half-back inferring he gets cheapies, etc. 2nd in the AFL for contested possesions behind Ablett, 5th for clearances. Went forward, kicked many more goals than Judd. I'd want 2009/2010 Swan in my team over Judd. Any day of the week. Over the course of their careers Judd has him covered but this is not what we're talking about.

Swan won the MVP and nearly every other award possible this year. 99% of the football community either had him or Ablett as having the best year. Hodge, Goddard and a couple others behind. A player not rated in that group walks away with the Brownlow over more deserving players (according to most). Yes, there's variables as to why that happened but it's the reason why people call this award a farce. This is not the first time I or others have thought this too. Same thing happened when Cooney beat Ablett in 2008, etc.

I'm not surprised at teh result. Its consistent with how teh umpires unmpire game also so just reflects how they see things, i.e. in terms of high profile players attarcting votes and also getting favourable decisons in game. Until we can somehwo inject football knowledge, not just a set of rules on a page into umpires it will stay the same. I reckon no one should be allowed to be a central umpire an AFL match until such time as they have played 50 games at a qualifiying level themselves. Piss off the accountants and actuaries and get some people who know footy. Would be a huge transition but the game will be adjudicated poorly in games and awards until we do it.

People can argue semantics all they like, but the fact remains, Judd basically won it on the back of 3 votes from a game in which his side was not just beaten , but soundly thrashed (and would've been thrashed by even more if not for some junk time goals) and two votes in a game where he was personally thrashed by his direct opponent....5 votes in total that he clearly shouldn't have received...

But then again Cotchin didn't get BOG for the Hawthorn game that he did all but win single-handedly either....:thumbsd:

Thats why they didnt suspend the smug p@#%K after the freo game, they knew what ws coming.

We all now know what the blues were cooking, but who gives a toss it just shows how inept the rest of their list is.

herald sun article "remember my brownlow, not fev's.....more fuel to reason that carlton rigged it so they aren't remembered as the club the fevola wrecked brownlow night with. hmmmm or maybe i can just accept it and be happy for him, he is a worthy winner.
