With all this hoo-ha over JUH not training, can’t the Bulldogs just put his player payments on ice?
Awkward Jesse Pinkman GIF by Breaking Bad

Between this, Balta and the Geelong player the AFL is really having a PR nightmare this year. They are usually pretty good at managing optics but ever since Andrew Dillon has taken over they have lost their way a fair bit.

Something I think is not discussed enough is what JUHs behaviour must have on the morale of the rest of the playing group.

Imagine being at a workplace and one of your colleagues refuses to turn up to work, is on the piss every night and yet is still getting paid (more than most) whilst the rest of you are toiling away doing the right thing.

Sure workmates have sympathy for colleagues going through tough times but I reckon that sympathy would have burnt out a long time ago for JUH.

JUH is flat out taking the piss right now.

Another club would have to be mad to pick him up, he's cooked his career beyond any hope of salvation.

Harsh words maybe but sometimes when people set themselves on a path of destruction the only thing you can do is stand back and make sure you don't get pulled down with them.

Yes they can. They will just be in breach of contract.

Mental health ✅
Wouldn't JUH have to prove his mental health issues stem from workplace concerns at the Doggies rather than outside factors such as substance abuse, pre existing mental illness, etc?

If you injure yourself outside of work and don't have any annual leave left workplaces aren't required to keep paying you whilst you recover (if you injure yourself at work of course it's covered by Workcover).

definitely one of those situations that everyone looks at a says ' thank God that's not my club's problem' ..
Feel for the dogs, Man has talent but obviously not the drive or want to be great.
I honestly don't know what the Dogs could have done different. They have handled the situation very well all things considered.

Crappy luck that they blew their number 1 pick on him but in a way it's a kind of karma given the way they manipulated the draft academy and pick swaps to get the pick in the first place (all legal of course but still felt kinda wrong).

That 2020 draft is going down as one of the worst / most cursed drafts in history by the way.

JUH is burning out, Gulden is injured. Slim pickings. Luckily Thilphorpe is showing a bit.

It was the COVID draft, says it all really.

I can only imagine how Macrae, who started our elimination final as the sub, or West, who was an emergency, would have felt about Jamarra being allowed to take the field despite Bevo wanting to drop him.

Plot twist - what if there’s some convoluted way to say substance issues have arised from the club, much like Joel Smith & his family claimed?

I don’t know the situation - but can’t deny the Dogs have had at least 2 issues on the illicit drugs side of things, and could also potentially a reason for Dunkley seeking more professional pastures.

If your colleagues influence you to take drugs & it happened at official work functions etc, is that messier?

hypothetical, but genuine question

Potentially you could be right but I think it's common knowledge that JUHs issues are more related to his "friendship group" outside of the club than issues within the club itself.

I am little unsure as how they manipulated the draft academy

They didn’t JUH was a clear number 1 pick with Thilthorpe a clear second. Given the Doggies had dibs on the Iceman the Crows made them pay full tote odds.

No big deal for the Dogs though, just a bunch of junk picks to match up the bid.
Manipulated was maybe not the correct word.

Taking advantage of a flawed system to get a number 1 pick via a bunch of junk picks is more exploiting a loophole rather than flat out manipulation.

I can't stand the academies / NGAs personally, mostly they are just a rort and really distort the integrity of the draft.

I don't entirely disagree with what you're saying (I'm in agreeance that there are many elements of the system which are a rort), but it is a little disingenuous to say they only gave up junk picks for Jamarra whilst ignoring what they gave up to get those particular picks. The Dogs traded out roughly 14, 36, 49 and F2 to land the picks used to get him, which whilst cheap for a pick 1 was not purely junk.

The saving grace for the Dogs, now that the Jamarra situation has turned into a mess, was the fact Treloar came along effectively as a freebie during the same trade period (based on the net points value transferred in that trade).

Gulden was pick 32.

But sheesh 2020 draft certainly cursed. Especially the top 20...

JUH, Tanner Bruhn, Will Phillips, Braden Campbell, Logan McDonald, DGB, Elijah Hollands, Nik Cox, Pedlar.

Disastrous draft really...
