Makes perfect sense to me.

What were their other options?

1. Give him 5 years (bad option)
2. Go public and say we don't want him at the club and not offer him a contract (also a bad option)
3. Try and put a little wax and polish on and hope someone doesn't look too hard under the bonnet and makes an offer (they tried this).

She didn’t really, she was just a paid for AFL mouthpiece. She supported the players getting off and blaming only the off-field staff. Which is what the AFL’s sham investigation arrived at. All so there wasn’t a VFL team running around the AFL in red and black.

Not sure we agree on this.
At the time she was up against it.
Early on both the bombers and AFL were in total denial and trying to cover it all up. Herald Sun was backing the the Bombers.
Caro says she should have gone harder as you say.

Anyway. Not much point rehashing this in this thread.

Good old JUH will either be out of the AFL or at another club next season. The only thing to work out is what the Dogs have to pay to end the contract.

The idea that she is a paid-for AFL mouthpiece is a bit much, surely the AFL would prefer this never came to light in the first place.

She didn’t break the story, she just got on the AFL train once it was out and the AFL had war roomed their objectives. Which was to go hard at the off-field staff and keep the innocent players on the field. Caro did their bidding, the below is straight out of the AFL’s playbook on controlling the narrative. Caro is a you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours journalist.

You reckon he’s a free agent after 3 or 4 years? There’s no compo involved. And his agent isn’t going to be telling other clubs the Dogs have only offered $600k, nobody negotiates like that.
 
Not sure why Smith isbeing discussed in the JUH thread, not comparable.

Smith is more a Beams type, can play but if there's a challenge blows up, changes clubs, and walks away. Will definitely give the Cats plenty before he's done, but as Footscray already know, Geelong better have an exit strategy because he does.

Poor JUH seems to be lost, on the hook of scum. More a danger to himself. AFLPA is shielding him because "touch one touch all", but hes such a train wreck he may end up losing the association reputation.

The only thing in common is they will burn you if you give them long contracts, but frankly even decent hard working players like Buddy or Grundy can end up being millstones on long deals: its not the players fault. I'm uneasy with 5 years for Daicos.

Seems like hope is gone for JUH. It's damage limitation now.

Yeah the Lions were high fiving Akermanis on the field when he was producing the goods. Winning is always good. Still doesn't change the fact that off the field they were sick to death of him.

Yeah Josh Dunkley, model football professional sick of the crap; McCrae 3 x AA stubbornly played out of position; Caleb Daniel similarly languishing in the reserves/bench. Then the cultural flogs like Stringer, Smith, Lachie Hunter, Dalhaus. There's 2 distinct camps.

Supposedly the GFC is already full of pricks and w***ers anyway (BigFooty is very, very strong on this), so maybe getting an official pantomime villain was the most efficient way to cement that brand.

Nah it's just the posters ;)

Some egos at every club, I think Chris Scotts unlikeable mug colours perceptions. I don't like him.

Great coach though, Geelongs best ever. All that success breeds envy. Team players and selfish w***ers alike probably appreciate being well coached.
