I still remember that elimination final like it was yesterday. I was in the Ponsford Stand behind the goals and distinctly remember seeing him up the other end of the field ~180metres away and wondering WTF was going on.

The way he was moving suggested something was not right. Very bizarre at the time.

He was prone to the odd game like that (maybe not quite as bad, but disinterested). Suspect he was playing up for quite a while and it only caught up with him late.

And back on topic, Bevo's always been excellent with building relationships with players, be they big names or otherwise, and it was the same when he was at my own club.

I suspect playing him in that game will end up being one of Bevos biggest coaching regrets when he looks back.

Outsider looking in, I don't know what I don't know, but got to feel for the dogs on this one.

Don't know that they could have handled it any better or any differently to get a better outcome - you just can't help someone not willing to help themself.

The idea of hanging on to him next year costs the same as cutting him loose and paying out his contract - strictly in terms of dollars that is true, but there is the cost to culture and morale of the rest of the playing group.

Surely a line needs to be drawn where if a player doesn’t turn up to work, goes of the rails, damages the club and brand that the contract gets terminated

Apparently it split the group & coaching staff on whether he should play or not, and it was quite close to the start of the game when the call to keep him in the side was made.

my visual observation from 180 metres at the mcg was that he was 'affected' on game day.

I think it’s generally reflective of the special treatment this guy has had.

When the story broke I was absolutely stunned that it was even entertained that he would play.

That was an absolute howler of a decision (that my club admittedly used to their full advantage). Did someone overrule Bevo on this?

Leadership group apparently pleaded Jamarra’s case. There was talk of him being sub but they settled on starting him on the bench.

One of his biggest supporters was Bont who then realised he’d been sold a lemon. He tried training with him after the final before going to the club and letting them know he was totally off the rails and not putting in. Disaster.
