Self inflicted issues should have minimal sympathy. Some understanding is given due to age and maturity, but people make choices to hang around questionable company - we don't live in a totalitarian state with Stasi agents following your every move and mandating your company.

it seems like all athletes do. I can’t work out why. I guess most sports have some basic training where the example given to practice is “obviously it’s a team game” and “obviously the opponent is a good side” and then it has had common usage from there?
