He will single handedly force a change of the standard AFL contract where clubs can get out of these deals when players pull the pin.

Maybe even gift clubs the power to trade players without consent.
I hope so, at this point his holding the club over a barrel and we have next to no recourse on how to deal with the situation.

He's going to absolutely **** over the club and have his contract torn up to then walk to whichever club he wants and Dogs wont get anything for him.

Needs to be some sort of protection for the Dogs here in this situation.
If it gets to that stage, the competition should essentially retire him and that would restrict him from being on a list for 3 years.

Absolutely

But can the Bulldogs simply 'tear up' the contract? Under what circumstances could they do this?

I'm not for one minute saying he's not been in a good space (his social media posts would suggest otherwise however) but all he has to do is to keep playing the mental health card and the Players Association will back him to the hilt, effectively stifling any such action the Bulldogs might want to take.

I think he wants the contact torn up though.

there would be a clause in his contract that is an "Event of Default". Each of these would give the club reasonable cause to terminate. An educated guess would be stuff like three strikes under the drugs policy, jail time, not fulfilling the objectives and key performance indicators of his employment for an extended period of time etc. I'm sure he's done something but the club doesn't want to look like they aren't trying to help him and cut him loose given his background, mental health issues and company he hangs around with. The AFL also does not want another bad end to an indigenous player if it can be avoided.

Spoke with a player manager about the situation a few weeks ago.

As it stands, all parties need to agree for the contract to be torn up, the AFL have the final say even if the Dogs want it. In his words, “the AFL won’t de-register JUH short of him being charged with some huge offence, the optics of the number one indigenous draft pick being de-registered by the league are disastrous”

This is why the league are heavily involved in supporting him and the club at the moment, although, doesn’t seem like any of it is sticking..

I hope AFL just removes him from the league and bans him for life. Contract ceases after this year.
So, similar to the Tarryn end result. We ended up losing an awesome talent for nothing, because he was being a dick outside the club.

Yeah end result would be similar. I find it odd that the AFL bans stand up citizen AFL legends that retire from reentering the league for 3 years, but Tarryn Thomas can have his contract torn up and he's able to be drafted by any club willing to take a punt on him (thankfully nobody did).

Not really. The AFL banned any club from drafting him.
Even for this year they said he can only play for a non-AFL affiliated VFL club which was only a couple, and they both didn't take him.

No, not without repercussions

Every player is on a fixed term employment agreement with terms implied via the standard AFL players contract. There are also terms and conditions linked to the club under a collateral agreement.

the club will need to seek advice from expert employment law legal practitioners to invoke termination based on a breach related to the numerous behavioural covenants.

The AFL fines players for a playfull finger at the crowd but lets this scumbag shove his whole fist up everyone in the whole system without comment. Hope he gets run over by a bus.

Oh my, are you ok there?

One should never wish harm on another person, ever.

Also, players are able to have a social life, they do not need to lock themselves in their homes when they are not working.
