We needed him away from the club. Hes currently too much of a distraction. And the bonus with this is itll stop the questions about his return to football. Provides clean air for the club and Marra
Can your club now elevate a rookie a bit like a long term injured player?

Can you go on leave at the same time as you are on leave?

I mean its a bit like going o a 4 week personal Leave holiday and using 2 weeks of sick leave because you hurt your foot climbing the Swiss Alps
People do that, seriously. Work colleague tried to get his holiday leave back because he got a cold during it.

Wonder if the rise of the super player agency’s can burden some of the blame and do a better job

Of course mental health issues don’t discriminate and can be underpinned by multiple internal and external factors but with some of the larger agencies having such large stables I wonder if some of the players that need more of a guiding hand go under the radar more and just deemed as another number

You can look at a player like Dusty who has a super close almost family like relationships with Ralph Carr who only has had a very small amount of players under him and I wonder if things could of turned out differently without that close relationship to help keep him honest at times and also protect him

Pretty much what Beams did in the end

Think it just gets to the point where the club in conjunction with the AFL and players management work for an outcome where they pay out the contract

But yeah seems like the type of thing where the players might have too much power but it’s also tricky to navigate given the mental health angle that could very much come into play

Guess it’s just one of those things it’s another risk that gets taken on with long term deals
Honestly think the afl needs to just put a line in the sand and allow clubs provisions to sack players if they are acting like JUH in this scenario.

Obviously provide all the mental health services etc, but at the end of the day it's still a workplace and a business. Other leagues do it without any issues.

I don't fully understand how AFL player contracts work.

What's stopping say a Clayton Oliver who has a contract until the end of 2030 just not turning up for 5 years and getting paid and saying he doesn't feel up to it.

Stop offering ridiculous contracts to everyone. The clubs choose this. They cant then complain.

Buddy missed 2 years of football, the Swans saw players lewve due to cap pressure, and didnt win a flag.

good list management by the dogs only locking him in til end of 26.
He had multiple $12 million plus offers on the table from Hawthorn and Richmond that he knocked back early last year to sign a two-year extension.
