You're missing one very important thing: Boyd performed on the big stage. JUH has been an absolute pile of shit, the Tambling to Riley Thilthorpe's Buddy, even without all this.

He had the most shots at goal of any player in the AFL last year at just 22 years old. And that’s with all the off-field stuff he was probably dealing with that most of us didn’t even know about.

A fit and healthy Marra is a top 10 player in the comp, no question.

Huge differences between Tom Boyd and JUH…
Genuine mental health issues Vs self inflicted substance abuse are vastly different animals
Agreed. Tom Boyd, IIRC, was on the front foot and came out and basically said, "i don't want the club to spend $1m a year on me when I'm not up to it." Admirable.

Not that it matters, but JUH has already played more games and kicked more than twice as many goals as Boyd did in his AFL career.

Apparently I'm in the minority, fair enough. I'm hoping JUH recovers to the point where he is a productive AFL player for many years, or he simply finds what he wants to do with his life (if it isn't AFL football) and pursues it. He doesn't owe me anything.

Seems most on here would be devastated with him finding peace for some reason.

Yes
But there's obviously more to it than that quip.

I'd be filthy if I was a Dogs supporter.
Smith is a POS IMO.

Yep and it's not completely unreasonable either. It's all hilarious and funny when it's your player doing it; but you only need to mention the words "Leigh" and "Colbert" together to still get a reaction from some Geelong fans, and that was from just leaving.

All supporters are the same, funny when it goes our way, outrageous if it's against us. The more and more money now paid to players, there would be a few players like that at every club.

Jamarra has been inconsistent, as you'd expect for a young tall forward, but has definitely not been a pile of shit on field (excluding last year's elimination final). Let's not rewrite history. He kicked 43 goals last year and ranked top 10 in the Coleman.

Exactly - last year he had an outstanding season overall (despite a poor finish). As recently as late-August last year, he slapped together a six game run where he kicked 18 goals, including three consecutive four goal hauls in round 19-21 He's missed a third of a season in 2025. You'd think he's been off the radar for three years the way some people are carrying on.

If people want to throw him on the scrap heap, go for it. I wouldn't be giving up on him, personally.

That is an oddly distorted take. I think you'll find most people admire the guts of Tom Boyd's approach under similar circumstances - there's clearly a difference w.r.t. to JUH.

A lot of people have convinced themselves that he's a spoiled brat that's taking the piss. When in reality it is what it has been all along (and what our club and most of the media have said it is), complex personal issues. Funny that.

Which is exactly my point. Tom Boyd's nearly 30 now. What were they saying about him when he was around the same age as Ugle-Hagan is now? I leave the numerous Bay 13 threads out and just link to this https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/tom-boyd-not-in-the-best-22-admits-skipper.1190681/

What will they be saying about JUH when he's 30? He has a lot of life to live before then.

I'm now convinced your engaged in convoluted trolling. No way possible that at this point in the thread you genuinely couldn't understand what other commenters are saying in contrast to what you keep banging on about.

Not sure where this 'JUH was/is shit' train of thought comes from.

Jamarra still averages more goals a game over his career than the guy you've compared him to. 😅 yet apparently he's at Tambling vs Buddys level.

JUH should be looking at the Jesse Hogan story for inspiration, hopefully he matures like Jesse before its too late because the other alternative is Cam McCarthy.

Sorry, I don't remember Tom Boyd posting pictures of himself getting pissed with a bunch of dickheads during important celebrations of his club's history.

There's literally nothing in common between JUH and Fisher, except for the fact that they appear to both enjoy life off the field. For which the same thing can be said about 50% of the players in the comp.

Again, if you wanna put your stock in Caroline Wilson's opinions, you're bloody welcome to. She's a petty gossip whore who carries grudges like badges of honour.

If you wanna be JUH's welfare officer, go ahead. If I was his team mate and I saw what he was getting up to, I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him and I wouldn't want to play with him or have my ability to win a flag compromised by him because he's flogging a wage he's not earning.
What?

I could be wrong but his entire take seems to be about Nick Riewoldt's very different reactions to two players facing similar performance and off-field behavioural issues.

On one hand Riewoldt is crying about the lack of support for Fisher, which is interesting given Riewoldt was in a position to intervene with Fisher.

On the other he's saying "enough is enough" about JUH and that clubs need to be protected from players who are "taking the piss".

Their relative ages or careers don't matter. They're both players who need better support, but Nick Riewoldt is taking very different stances.

One that Fisher is a victim of the AFLs lack of support and two that the Bulldogs, AFLPA and the league are victims of JUH.

The comments about Wilson are pretty ****ed up - I'm not her biggest fan, but she deserves better than that.

This is a fatuous take.

As previously repeated, Fisher was performing on field, eg, doing the job he was paid for. JUH is not even training, he's not even in Melbourne, he's busy posting on social media about him being inebriated and using.

There is literally no comparison between the two situations and Riewoldt is entirely entitled to have two different opinions on two entirely different situations.

As to Wilson, what is ****ed up about my comments? She is a gossip by definition, she gets paid to gossip and she carries grudges like a bitter old woman.

As to Wilson, what is ****ed up about my comments?

The fact that - in the case of this particular "gossip" - the guy went to prison 10 years after Wilson published an article making thinly-veiled references to his off-field activities and the serious concern about them. And that other journalists have also come out to say it was common knowledge at the time.

Long story short: it's ****ed up, because she was 100% correct.

It's not really about on-field performance.

You're missing the point.

It's about off-field, anti-social behaviour and the need for/lack of support.

"Saint" Nicholas deems it a crime to be stamped out when it's JUH but a failure of the system when it's his team mate.

If JUHs off-field issues are impacting his ability to play, then surely he's as deserving as anyone of Nick's good graces and greater support of the AFL.

Calling Caroline Wilson a "gossip" is fine - though I doubt you'd say that about Mark Robinson or Mitch Cleary.

Calling her a "gossip whore" is clearly rooted in sexist world views and not fit for the 21st century.

On another note:

Christ I hope St Kilda win a flag in my lifetime - perhaps their supporters will stop carrying such enormous chips on their shoulders if they do.

I'm not arguing with someone so obtuse that they don't appreciate the difference between JUH and Sam Fisher.

Mark Robinson is a drunken buffoon. Mitch Cleary is a news reporter. Wilson is a gossip columnist and mouth piece for AFL House who occasionally breaks a news story.

Dude, I have a life, unlike you, I don't get happy or sad when St Kilda wins or loses.

Go get a life.

Are you conflating drug use - which 50% of the AFL partakes in - with commercial drug smuggling and trafficking?

Don't be so flipping stupid.

She didn't say precisely what the issues concerning Fisher were. However - why did she single out Fisher, if 50% of the league (and - by extension - probably a similar proportion of the St Kilda list) was doing the same thing? Your explanation doesn't make sense.

My take on the 2012 article is that Wilson was suggesting Fisher was into some Cousins/Gardiner/Jake King stuff with his circles, given it mentioned teammates getting fed up with him.

I would have thought you can go with the "<<journalist>> has no idea!" when they get proven wrong. You can even do it (while crossing fingers) when the jury is out. But it's a bit rich to try it when they've been proven to be spot on, several years later.

Good to hear the fella might be in rehab.

In other news, Caroline Wilson is a journo and Roo got BTFO sounding off at an addict.

It's complicated but at least JUH is moving in the right direction.

Not hooking back up with deadbeats will be the next habit to break.
