You bid on JUH because it made sense to bid on him because the Dogs otherwise had a bunch if junk picks. The Dogs would not have passed on matching a JUH bid even if they had merely rated him as the 10th or 15th best draft prospect, because what was the alternative - use 5 picks in the 30's and 40's?

Maybe we didn't literally rate JUH as the 15th best prospect but there is a reasonable chance that we both rated Thillthorpe as the best prospect and JUH as number 2 or 3.

It’s an interesting scenario.

With most bids later in the draft you’d be silly to try and force a club to take a player earlier than you rate them in case they leave you with a player you don’t want.

Here though, it was a COVID year and our alternative to taking JUH was to take swipes at players later in the draft that we’d barely seen play in a year.

I suspect Adelaide rated both players fairly similarly but the likelihood we would have not picked him (having already shifted our draft hand so we could get him early) was extremely low.
