so then cancel the idea of someone being in the back seat(or boot) of her car...

But did they have eyes on the cars in the car park at all times? We have cctv for that now.

The 22-year-old was last seen leaving the Parmelia Hilton Hotel in the Perth CBD about 12.30am on June 20, 1988 after a staff function.

Does anyone know the state of the front seatbelts when the car was pulled out? If a suicide, surely Julie would have been still strapped into her seat. I don't think it was suicide at all but it's worth asking if they had been broken

A large brownish bag doesn’t sound like an evening bag at all seems the only reason It’s connected to Julie is due to the diary being from 88. Doesn’t mean if belonged to her. Someone could have done an unrelated bag snatch and buried the unwanted items to be found later on. I’m not convinced the sand dune items or the clothes left in coffee shop are related to her without DNA confirmation. Too generic

This is a decent sized "make up" bag the cops published that was still missing. If this was not the large brownish bag that was found years later, they items may not have been related to Julie. She most probably had a smaller purse she took to the function, and a purse was found.

There was a good example in the article posted just above my post if you were paying attention. Who made the connection between the sexual assault at KK and CSK? How? Many more exist, if you stopped your steam of innane posts and read measured replies you've been given (Edit: and I don't mean mine), or took notice perhaps?

This is a decent sized "make up" bag the cops published that was still missing. If this was not the large brownish bag that was found years later, they items may not have been related to Julie. She most probably had a smaller purse she took to the function, and a purse was found.

I think if there were gifts at the awards night or Julie was Employee of the Year it would have been something at least one of the 180 people in the room might have noticed and reported on in Social Media.

It does look quite big but I have one exactly the same by Jag, it's a make up bag. There's been reference also Julie had a shoulder bag.

Edit: Julie had some involvement in theatre, so a really big makeup bag probably isn't unusual.

in someways...it is a pity there were no CCTV at petrol stations in 1988....could of been interesting to follow up footage along that route at various stations....
a car travelling quite a distance surely needs to be toped up....especially in this condition.....
CCTV footage is required to be kept on media format for some time(for the non-payers)....

I think they were on a roster system back then for staying open after Saturday at noon. Nothing in MSM about how much fuel was in the Fiat's tank (if it was waterproof) I think there were only a few petrol stations along Stirling highway back in 88, so I presume WAPol check them all.

Sure, here's a brand new 1988 day to a page diary, 6mths into the year. Not likely.
She wouldn't, not least because it wasn't open after midnight on a Sunday.

Quite likely the reason she didn't go to the car park on her own. There were reports about the Sheraton hiring extra security at the time & she walked another woman out & returned & she was talking to a male employee when she left too so I'd assume they were walking together to the car park. Quite possibly the person who said they saw her go to the passenger side to get into her car & maybe the same person who saw the couple enter the car park after Julie was already in her vehicle.
Highly unlikely to be keep sakes. More likely they just didnt have any champagne glasses & she saw a perfect opportunity to take some but they never made it home.
Very much doubt they were the only thing in her car either. When they're looking for a missing woman, her missing clothes in missing bags & her cars been rolling in the surf with enough force to dislodge the rear seat, whatever miscellaneous junk was trapped in the glovebox or the console that didn't find its way to the bottom of ocean would hardly be relevant I'd think. Especially not when they're searching the coastline in the days proceeding half expecting those items to turn up & very quick to admit they were baffled when they didn't. 10c, a spare fuse or a service manual is nothing in those circumstances.
You know they've said they were handed to police when they appealed for info again around the 1 year mark & the first the owner knew of any missing items connected to JC.They didnt know anything until they found the car so of course its going to become bigger news when they have something to focus on & it was found within a day or so of being reported missing.
We dont know that the car going in the sea has anything to do with her disappearance though.

A deceased man found naked at the bottom of a cliff less than a km away just weeks later is worthy of a paragraph reporting the incident until they know more but someone's suicide, if thats what it was, isnt the general publics business regardless. There might have been a line or two later to say it wasnt suspicious which went unnoticed & more than likely tacked on to another story about another unrelated death or something, considering the timing.

Its a lot of what if's isn't it. But what is the point of it? How the glasses got there? How is it relevant? Just asking? Not critic.

It was a staff awards night. You all get a 6 pack of Parmelia champagne flutes and a Hawaiian diary pack to take home with you? Thankyou for your loyalty.

As for the bag, the one time Julie goes missing, her uniform turns up slid under table at a nearby cafe. If you had your car, why would you take the uniform out of the car to go for something to eat after stuffing yourself at the staff awards night with free food and alcohol?

You know, if I had nearly been run off the road a few weeks prior, then another person had been abducted from another 5 star CBD hotel and beaten for 3 hours, I dare say police may have advised hotel admin and staff of the current security risk and female staff were advised not to go to their cars on their own.

Quite normal that female staff might escort other solo staff to their cars under the circumstances of abduction and horrendous injuries. There may be more attempts we don't know about in the year 1988.

At this same time I was also working weekend shifts for a perth hotel aside from my normal job to pay for overseas travel. I never caught wind of any possible abductions going on either through my job or even in the media. It just didn’t register with me the other woman that said she was abductedother staff however would warn me to never carry a breakfast tray into a room but hand it over at the door!

Can't read the entire article clearly enough, does it quote a "make up" bag? The caption looks like it's printed as a "handbag".

1. It might have leaked out that she won an award by now. So there is NO wondering at all.

2. Pretty poor reason for murder ( though I agree people dont need much)

Not her suicide, dont think she did that for a second. Melsy says the naked 40ish guy found deceased on the shoreline at the base of the rocks near Beach St soon after had been a suicide. Im not sure what happened to him.

Do you know the name of the person who suicided?

Thanks OES. That's not what the item is in BlueE's article, so can we say that one shoulder bag and one case was missing as well as the plastic bag holding her clothes?

Because that might put a very different spin on things imo.

Senior male employee who spoke to her only saw her standing at her passenger door. Someone else must have seen the couple and Julie in her car & only recently we heard of the sighting of her turning out of the car park alone, so there were a few 'eyes' on her.

Quite a few mentions of the kidnapping/abduction possibility over the following 3 weeks. Sister still suspecting an abduction by day 13, didn't believe phone call. Cops looking at all possibilities including kidnapping 19 days later. Kind of fizzles out without a demand though I guess, which Im pretty sure they'd have paid if they could. I wonder if the court transcripts had gone missing by 88 though? PD did you ever find out?

I'd also forgotten the family received calls from someone afterwards that they couldnt trace.

"They went on for some time and though there were efforts made to trace the calls, they came to nothing".

She didnt smoke Shiraz Only.

I think they're her clothes & she was wearing those stockings when she left but Im stuck with 3 possibilities and each one is totally different in all respects yet completely plausible...so, I guess I know s**t.

Yeah, very different bags & BlueE's article says she was always known to carry a "distinctive" bag too.
Unlikely anyone would mistake that case being hers if they were shown so its fairly unlikely that was the bag found buried in the sand then.
2 bags I suppose if the bag in the sand was hers. Case missing & the other a spare found in her car with a decent reason for having a blank diary and little else with it. 2nd bag & spare diary. Which she did keep apparently, her dad delivered them to Macro in 2001. How complete I have no idea.

With regard to whether Julie smoked or not, I came across the find a grave site a few years back and came up with the most ambiguous statement.

"With advances in technology, we hope DNA can be obtained off cigarette filters that were found in Julie's car," she said.
"They were from a type of cigarette we know Julie didn't smoke and it might prove to be the lead we need."

It could be read they aren't the cigarette type Julie smoked or we know Julie didn't smoke.

It was originally from an article in the post, so it is unclear to me if she smoked or not. There were many contradictory statements at that time.

I think in all likelihood the bag with the uniform in it was hers.

It's unlikely the diary or pen was hers. One eyed reports her father handed her diary in to cops. Pen, if Hawaiian property group which was established in 1993, not hers. Large-ish brown shoulder bag may have been. It's not the squarish "distinctive bag" (make up bag used for function?) in the photo published as missing, but what was found could match the bag described in missing items posted by one eyed.

She might have two bags. One for make up and the other to take with her with a small purse in it. One may have been found?
