Unsubstantiated reports that Claremont accused attended WAIT university. Julie Cutler attended WAIT university where Dorothy was dumped in nearby vicinity on Centenary Avenue.

The alleged perp did not have a deprived childhood, both he and his brother completed yr 12 and attended Curtin.

He secured 2 reasonably attractive wives and was well thought of in Little Athletics or he would never have been voted into the positions he held there. Unfortunately he appears to have a serious character flaw that began to manifest itself years before the incidents in the Claremont area.

There seems to be a hint of snobishness that creeps into this forum every now and then. All types frequented the area I'm sure Frankie and the gang didn't go all the way from Balga just for the HJs.

A Blog post from a former Parmelia Hotel work colleague of Julie Culter
"A full moon, serial killers and tales of happier times" https://www.positivelybeaming.com.a...oon-serial-killers-and-tales-of-happier-times

What you need to understand about The Parmelia is that at the time there were only two 5 star hotels in the City. If you had a ball, a wedding or an important work event it was held at the Parmelia or the Sheraton.

The 5 star 400 bed atrium style Merlin Hotel at the Causeway end of St Georges Terrace opened 1984ish
by a Malaysian Groupon. It was sold to Stan Perron in 1986 then ended up in the Hyatt chain.

Not sure it retained its 5 star status all the time, but it most definitely was rated 5 star in 1985.

And ..... great find Pete

Been posted before, but a great refresher.

Almost 30 years ago to the day, Julie Cutler disappeared from a staff party at the Parmelia Hilton, her car was found at Cottesloe Beach but she was never seen again. She was 22 , I was almost 21, she drove a Fiat, so did I, we worked together on the Banquet Floor of the hotel. She worked at the staff party, I chose not to go

Maybe now they have some DNA today and not the DNA of the killer but do now?

I forgot to ask about the tights – surely they can get DNA off a pair of tights??

It was the height of WA Inc, Brian Burke was in power, Alan Bond, Dallas Dempster and cronies were having long lunches and there was money everywhere. The Banquet Floor (Functions Centre) was booming. I worked on 2 weddings a weekend, every weekend for almost 5 years. We did endless 21sts, Labor Cabinet meetings (all hush hush with the menus destroyed). We served Sir Charles Court, Margaret Thatcher and the Pope.

The champagne flutes?

We worked hard, laughed a lot and ended most nights with staffies – finishing off the half-drunk bottles of wine and smoking like chimneys. Eventually when the booze ran out we would all drive home, tired, tipsy and happy.

You noticed too.
"tired, tipsy and happy".

There's an opening for considering that just maybe she accidentally put her own car in the drink at cottesloe and attempted to stagger home, in the process losing some stuff in the sand dunes, or being picked up along the way or attacked and bundled into a van at those dunes where her stuff was found? Assuming of course that all that weird stuff about a break in, the bag of clothes, and the road rage incident is purely coincidental of course.

Would she have to go past Cottesloe Beach to get home though? Presuming she was actually on her way home and not meeting someone at Cottesloe. Then taken either a sharp left or right turn across another lane to enter the winding service road down to the beach. It doesn't seem that might be done accidentally.

There does seem to be a lot of circumstantial events surrounding this case to counter a possibility that she put the car into the drink herself. The fact that she hasn't appeared since, would also seem to preclude her staging her own disappearance.

Only a couple of weeks earlier, someone had tried run her off Stirling highway, only ceasing near the turn off to Cottesloe. Then Dorothy gets abducted at the other five star hotel, The Sheraton in between.

Julie told her father, Roger, that a car had followed her closely for several kilometres along Stirling Highway, almost touching her rear bumper at times and seemed to be trying to force her off the road.

As she approached a turn-off in the beachside suburb of Cottesloe, the car pulled alongside and then suddenly veered in front of her.
Ms Cutler swerved around it and sped away, later reporting the incident to police.

As her stepsister related, years later, she called “extremely upset. She thought whoever was in the car wanted to run her off the road or force her to pull over.”

Ms Cutler’s sister wants three parts of her sister’s disappearance reinvestigated — a break-in at her Fremantle home shortly before she disappeared, her complaint a man had tried to force her car off Stirling Highway and a question of whether she made it home the night she disappeared because her wallet was found at her house.

Dorothy was bashed for 3 hours on Hill st? Or in the yellow car, with the steel seat by the driver with the rough gloves?

Julie left from Mill st

In 1988, rally was a pretty big culture. Very soon it would become Telstra Rally. Toyota Corrollas were popular, especially in amateur rally.

Amateur rally was popular in eastern and southern suburbs.

"In 1988 the team had the first Rally Australia based in Perth ready to go. It was to be a round of the Asia-Pacific rally championship and a trial for WRC acceptance. The idea was for FISA officials to evaluate the event and approve it for 1989

The 88 Rally Australia proved a success. The unique surface, layout of the event and organisation made a great combination. Ingvar Carlsson/Per Carlsson took their works Mazda 323 4WD to the first win."

Someone new enough to drive Julies car off the edge into the ocean at the Cottesloe surf club. Maybe rally skilled.

"In late May or early June, Julie rang her father to report an alarming incident in which she had been driving home in her Fiat sedan from work along the Stirling Highway.

Ms Cutler swerved around it and sped away, later reporting the incident to police."

Julie Cutler has a madman try run her off the road on Stirling Highway in 1988. Someone not really worried about denting his car. He cuts in front of her.

Dorothy has a man abduct her within weeks of Julie, bash her in Hill st then drive off in a car with a steel passenger seat, wearing rough gloves. A small yellow car, possibly Toyota.

Julie Cutler disappears after leaving a five star hotel (Mill st). Dorothy was leaving the only other five star hotel, Sheraton.

Julies car is driven down a driveway at Cottesloe Surf Club and off the wall into the ocean. Someone with a bit of car knowledge knew they could pull this off.

Dorothy is dumped near WAIT (Curtain University) on Centenary drive in the year of Bi Centenary celebrations. (1988)

1988 is also the inception of Telstra Rally Australia in Perth.

Who had the dirt track hack amateur rally car? The hacker for the Pine Forest in 1988?

Here is an early specced up Corrolla for rally. Corollas were common rally at the time. Amateur rally held eastern and south eastern Perth suburbs

It appears police either feel they already have someone in prison, or the police have considerable evidence against someone else they have in reserve for future charges.

The consistency in highschools appear to be indicative of how this will pan out. Familiar locations.

No doubt police will take more up once they have a few more details and people cleared from certain crimes.
