did anyone here a press conferance at all? hear how bails handled himself? talk about being thrown to the wolves in round 1.

The thing that amazed me was that Hawthorn were allowed to play exactly how they wanted for 4 quarters.

I was certain after half time that things would be mixed up a bit and different tactics employed but I was very, very wrong.

If i had an answer for ya id give ya one. But im as bemused as you. No flipping idea what the hell is going on anywhere. Looked like we had prepared for 6 days not 6 months.

Dee-molishon - you aren't a supporter. You are what the headline here suggests - a bandwagon supporter. Happy to jump off when we are down, happy to talk yourself up as a Melbourne supporter when we are up. Results aside today, you make me ashamed to be a Melbourne supporter. What is the point of all your posts?

I'm just as angry and upset as you are, but I stayed until the very end with my Hawthorn supporters. I'm not going to show weakness and leave. I'll put up with it. You, on the other hand, are soft and cowardly in the way you support this club. I'm right behind the club 100% - you just take cheap pot shots. Hero.

Dee-f*ckwit aside, what can we do about today? Nothing. Hawthorn are a gun side and we still have the same problems we always had. Our senior players still go missing and we don't run hard enough, especially when they run the ball out of defence. We will have some good players to return in the next 2 weeks, but I'd hope that the players really take this loss to heart and they do something about it. Fast.

If it makes you feel any better...

Sorry I have nothing.

However, on a side note - I have never left a game before the final siren.. and believe me... I have been through some hard times with geelong. All the best for the rest of the year.

CFH the fact is that everyone is sick of the same excuses year in and year out - to say that we will stick with the team solves nothing - we all stick with the team but someone in the club needs to listen - the fact is that the MFC has historically been soft as marsh mellows and this has never been more evident than today. There is no benefit to be had in saying "oh we should stick with the team". The fact is we will all stick with the time like we have for decades but something needs to change - the challenge is, how do we assist to make that change?

I'll sit through it because I love my club. You, on the other hand, don't. I'm already there next weekend and the weekend after that... and so on. It's easy to support a club when they are winning. The true supporters come through when the tough times come around. You aren't one of them.

I was dumbfounded at the lack of effort Melbourne showed. I couldn't believe the scoreboard during the third quarter when you'd only got 1 goal.

I think the loss of Trav Johnstone has shown up this afternoon, the class in the midfield is gone.

Hang in there as you still have some quality players, and wooden spoon isn't a certainty, I wouldnt be suprised to see you win 7 games this year. But if you play like you did against us you wont get withing 10 goals of Carlton.

Mate we will all sit through it no doubt, but how do we change it?

Thank yo hi-ho.

Agree with your comments as well.

I will also be back next week, just to see what sort of effort is put in.

And i want the axe swung at selection i dont care who is brought in but these name need to go:

MILLER, WHEATLEY, CARROLL, ROBERTSON, WHITE, YZE

And aaron davey was far from good today even gave up on chases and did bugger all. Robo maybe excused for one week but he needs to pull his finger out. Has seemed uninterested all pre-season just doesnt look like he cares anymore. Maybe we should have let him go to the dogs?

I dont care if we get flogged send these imposters back to sandy bring in kids they cant do any worse than today.

As for Dean Bailey, even though i still have no flipping idea what our game plan is or what direction we are going. I feel sorry for him, no first game coach deserves a disgraceful effort like that. Chin up bails, things cant get get any worse can they?!! YOUR COACHING PEA HEARTED CLOWNS WHO WOULD LOOK BETTER AT MOOMBA I DONT EXPECT MIRACLES JUST COMPETIVINESS!!

CANT BELIEVE WE HAVE BRAD MILLER FOR 3 MORE YEARS!!!! Is that trade with sydney still on?? Ill take henry playfair for him right now

Robertson was good, only shining light along with mclean and njones all the rest were terrible, but on the bright side dosent rivers return soon?

I don't dis-agree - I just get annoyed when peanuts come on here and post complete rubbish that does nothing to solve the problem.

We have too many players who don't do the hard things. Robbo, Yze, Green, White etc. All were horrible today. As senior players they should have stood up and made an effort to stem the flow. They did nothing. Until we either get rid of them or come down hard on them until they DO the right things, then no coach on the planet would get us up and about.

IMHO getting rid of TJ was a move in the right direction for the club.

Dear god what the hell are you on about?

Yes we were extremely crap, but swinging the axe after 1 GAME of the season isn't going to do much except ensure more 100 point beating in the future.

And furthermore on that, we looked slow and un-fit today. Too many times we were caught behind or not able to chase players down. We put ZERO pressure on when teams run the ball out of defence and our skills are horrible.

To change it, I'd take the hard line - dump Robbo, Yze, White etc. Tell them until they do the right things, they won't get a game. Play some of the young kids and implement whatever game plan Bailey has. Teach them NOW to do all the right things as some many of our senior players won't do it. We might lose quite a few games, but in the long run we will have a hard running team that does the right things. Until then... it will be a long season.

Some of his 65% efficiency specials would really have gone down a treat today. We would probably have lost by 200 with him kicking in.

Speaking of kick ins... Daniel Bell should never be allowed to do it again!

Speaking of kick ins, are we the worst in the league at them or what!!!! And are we the worst at defending an opponents kick ins or what!!!!

I think i could hit more targets kicking in with left footed back heel drop kicks blind foled than we have for the last 5 years.

Yep I agree CFH but the other problem to consider is "why have we become so bad in pre-season" - IMO the only answer is the coach and management - lets face it the players have not changed - the same faces are out there and therefore we should be more competitive given the experience these players have gained...not less.

It has to be Bailey...is he one of those guys that can talk the talk but can't walk the walk? We owe it to him to give him the year to prove himself but honestly, there just isn't another reason for our 10 goal (on average) losses over the pre-season and our 15 goal loss first up.

I did not see any resemblance of a game plan today and I think that was the main difference between 2006 and 2008.

Well it's one of those things - is it the players adjusting to a new game plan, or is the game plan complete rubbish? The players haven't changed and that is the main problem. We won't go forward with guys like Yze in the side. If Bailey needed any more evidence that these guys give nothing to our side then he only needs to look at the game tape.

Whenever we got the ball forward it looked like it was through pure luck - a player would take the mark and look like he was suprised to get it and had no idea where to go - when the hawkers got the ball they didn't even need to look before they disposed of the ball - they knew where their player would be - that makes a whole lot of difference

I love this football club. I don't know where I would be without it. Despite the crippling lows and the joyous highs, I just love Melbourne

Like i have said from wizard cup game one against geelong. I DIDNT SEE A GAME PLAN THEN AND I HAVE NO flipping IDEA STILL WHAT IT IS. But..........

That doesnt excuse the performance put up today. I dont care if bailey doesnt have a game plan at all, the players should have played better for themselves for their own self respect, let alone for the faithful that buy memberships and the people who payed money to watch that rubbish.

P.S - If you're one of these complete drug addicts who lives their lives by "omen", I give you the following.
