Hi,
I live in Brisbane. I am interested in junior football throughout Australia.
I have children that play for a BJAFL team.
I would like to know what happens in other states regarding the local AFL team, regarding player visits, clinics etc.
We are having a player visit at our club on 18th April. We are lucky. Last year a local team the Glasshouse Lions couldn't get squat out of the Lions.3 footy Leagues in South East Queens;and, and from what I believe they have never had a player visit them. There are only 3 Lions teams, and one the Lions ignores.
I was interested if this happens elsewhere, or is it just in Queensland.
They have asked the club, but the written reply was astonishing apparently.
Mind you all this was public knowledge on their club forum page.
I would be interested in how things are in other states.

The footy club my son plays for is affilitated with the Brisbane Lions. We live in Melbourne. Maybe we are lucky we live in Melbourne.

A mate of mine moved to NSW and he reckons that AFL club support for junior football (outside of the main football cities) is appalling.

Apparantly last year, two AFL teams (no, I won't mention them to avoid arguments, but I will say that it wasn't Sydney or North Melbourne) were to visit his area for a practice game. As it turned out, the ground surface wasn't good enough to play on. So, instead of the footballers doing something like putting on a clinic, they simply got onto the bus and headed back to Sydney.

The weekend after, 2 rugby league clubs visited, played their practice game, and then spent the rest of the day PLUS the next day putting on clinics and spending time with the children.

Not surprisingly, rugby league has had a resurgence in interest.
