Any news on this any at all?!

I believe his commital hearing is on the 23rd of this month, I assume in keeping with the year that is MFC 2012 he will be found guilty of taking Lindy Chamberlain's kid and framing a dingo.

Jurrah urged to 'be strong' ahead of committal hearing

LAWYERS for Liam Jurrah are expected to argue charges against him linked to an alleged machete attack should be thrown out of court.

The Melbourne footballer is scheduled to front a Northern Territory magistrate for a three-day committal hearing beginning on Monday in Alice Springs.

Those close to the 23-year-old are offering all the support they can, telling him to 'be strong.'

If magistrate David Bamber finds there is enough evidence to justify the charges, the case will proceed to a full trial before a jury, although that would be unlikely to take place until next year.

If it does go to a full trial the club will be in an interesting spot wrt contract.

Best of luck Liam. Is it wrong of me to be more nervous about about the court case than the result of the game tonight???

The club's fortunes going into the future rest more heavily on LJ being cleared than a game against Port in Darwin, even if it does mean finishing 15th rather than 16th.

Interesting article in the Herald Sun today. Not sure about the Bulldogs beanie being worn by Liam's old lady though.

That article had some of the worst writing I've had to endure.

Herald Sun "revealing" what Martin Flanagan has been writing about for years.
Spot on. '******ed by drink' - honestly.

Even if Liam is acquitted of all charges, I fear he will never be the same man again after all this. His playing was based on having a happy-go-lucky attitude and being a town hero. Now he looks like he has the weight of the world on his shoulders. There is talk that he will never be able to return to his homeland again because there is basically a tribal retribution waiting for him there. It doesn't matter what the court decides, the tribal retribution is waiting for him. It can't be undone apparently. If he can never go back, I think it will impact very badly upon him. I don't know what that means in terms of seeing his kids either.

This is a horrible mess and at the moment I can't see Liam Jurrah ever being the same as he was. Tortured figures don't play good football. Very sad tale.

The court case sounds as if it might be unraveling; from the tiny snippets I've heard, it's going to be hard for the prosecution to prove the case beyond reasonable doubt.

But I fear you're right. Getting off the charges is but one small step of many facing Liam if he's ever going to play AFL to potential.

I doubt Neeld would have tolerated happy-go-lucky football, but I see your point. All the same, he has been described by just about everyone as "resilient" so it's not necessarily going to have a major impact on the way he plays for the rest of his career, as long as that may be.

I didn't realise he was a father, though.

I think Jurrah is one of those Mercurial types that thrive on confidence. Without it, he can't play. He'd be the one exception to the usual hardline Neeld approach in that sense. Not that he shouldn't develop a defensive side to his game though.

Yeah, he's got 4 kids, I think. He used to always like going back to his hometown every chance he got. Looking at the scene outside the courtroom today, home visits are off the agenda from now on.

yes sadly can npt go back it is sad as that this has happened to him there is a young fellow i heard on sen who is doing a law course in hope of going back there to work and help stop this stuff from happening , i hope he is successful in doing so

Good day for Liam maybe

Basil admits he was drinking before midday on the night of the events. Says he can't remember who drove him there.

The first witness that was not drinking the night of the events says Basil was the one with the machete, she says Basil was so drunk he kept falling over, she says Basil attacked Liam and Liam defended himself.

Another witness who on the night told police that Liam attacked Basil with a machete has told the court today she did not see Liam with a machete.

Basil still says Liam attacked him but he was so drunk that night and there were 30 other people there, how can he be so sure of what happened and by who.

Fair to say the evidence seems pretty unreliable so far, fingers crossed that they won't be able to prove anything bad about Liam specifically. It sounds OK so far - especially the witness who says he didn't have a machete (contradictory I know haha).

This is good news, partly because it seems that the evidence is unreliable and conflicting... but mainly because it legitimately appears that Liam didn't do anything wrong.

No winners regardless of the outcome I think. Just a horrible mess of a situation. Am hoping that Liam is genuinely innocent and can put the episode behind him as best as humanly possible.

Reading the article, I reckon Basil was completely maggoted, fell over and hit himself in the skull with his own machete.

This case will be thrown out tomorrow for sure die to lack of evidence and everyone there being drunk as a skunk

What a joke, Liam has had his name dragged through the mud for 6 months and the guy didn't even do anything.

Its going to be a great feeling for Liam and the MFC when the case is dismissed though, like a dark cloud lifting over everyone.

And Liam will be back playing immediately, I have no doubt hes been filly fit the last few weeks but has held back until this nonsense was out of the way.

I think it's a bit more complicated than that. Even if he's acquitted in the eyes of the law, the tribal war going on in his hometown is worse than ever. He can't go back there any more. There's a hit out on him now. He can't go back ever from what I've read. We all know how important family and territory are to aboriginal people. I think this will take a huge toll on him and I'm not at all confident he will come back as the same player he was before all this happened. I really hope he can make a go of it because he really needs football to rebuild his life, I think.

Going to supreme court...

AFL footballer Liam Jurrah will stand trial in the Northern Territory Supreme Court on assault charges.
Alice Springs magistrate David Bamber, SM, committed the Demons forward and two fellow defendants, Christopher Walker and Josiah Fry, to stand trial after a two-and-a-half day hearing into a fight involving up to 60 people on 7 March.
One man, Basil Jurrah, a cousin of the footballer, suffered a depressed fracture of the skull, two scalp lacerations and facial injuries in the affray at the Little Sisters town camp six kilometres from Alice Springs. Basil Jurrah accused his footballing cousin and Walker of hitting him with a machete, a nulla nulla and an axe.

Oh well. One thing we can't do here is think that we know more of the story than they do, or that we know better than the law. Best to leave it at just talking about him hopefully returning to football, and the role he will play in the club.
