 Unfortunately Matthews did say that while commentating a game. He has said that and he has also said in the 3 games Watts played he didn't see why he was taken at pick #1.

Just because you don't like it doesn't mean it didn't happen. :o

There is hope yet for Melbourne supporters.

Close enough to what you said. :thumbsu:

Exhibit A of stereotypical Melbourne poster.

Just wouldn't be a Spartan post without these repetitious trolling quips I think... ;)

As for your other point, have a look at your own board and the main board around draft time and even a number of Melbourne posters have even discussed the notion that Naitanui wasn't taken first because he was from WA and indicated he wanted to stay in WA. That doesn't mean Melbourne didn't take Naitanui solely based on that fact but to think that it didn't play any part at all is simply ignorant. I personally think the decision was alot harder than you try and make it out to be.

As we both like facts, show me where I've stated that Naitanui wasn't very seriously considered and that the decision wasn't close. Or that I've made out it wasn't close. You're very loose with the truth.

I've discussed the Gibbonaita's deficiencies ad nauseum elsewhere, so I don't feel the need to extrapolate upon those every time I post.

Btw, most supporters on every forum are generally footy stupid. The Demons Board is no exception. The 'go home' factor is a consideration, but if our club deems one player to be clearly superior to others at a given pick they'll always go for the best player, irrespective of their home state. Cale Morton is a case in point. :thumbsu:

So you agree that Naitanui was strongly considered and that the decision was close. :thumbsu:

Why the **** are you winking? Save that shit for Watts.

Speaking of repetition, can you please tell us again why Melbourne didn't finish 9th this year. I can't remember, its probably been 10 minutes since you last enlightened us.

Let me guess, but you're not?

Also the go home factor is greater in some players more so than others.

Yarran was/is a very talented player. He made it clear that he wanted to stay in WA. Its not a stretch that his lack of performance to date is due to having to move interstate. While not as vocal, Naitanui also expressed a strong desire to stay in WA.

I've asked you to produce facts to back the claim you made about my previous assertions. Waiting...

Also, Naitanui and his Mother both made it clear that he was very happy to come to Melbourne and that the whole family would move with him.

You fail.

I never said you specifically said that?

He said that when interviewed. Suprised? I'm pretty sure Yarran would have said the same thing when he got interviewed. A number of 'sources' on this board and a few others claimed (at the start of 2008 long before we had pick #2 and Freo pick #3) that he wanted to stay in WA.

What the?

I have always said those were the words Matthews said.

W=F said that Matthews said something else in the recent AFL.com article.

I actually originally said exactly what you said a post ago.

Nah its not mate, 2 different statements with 2 different meanings.

Anyhow using a skinny 17yo first year player to try and prove an argument is silly and not to mention completely lacks relevance, still here I am posting so I suppose I have been sucked in.

Jack Watts is going to make a lot of people look mighty silly methinks, but it will take a few years and by then many posters will have re-written history again.

Again though we played him, he wasn't ready so we have to cop some crap I suppose.

I have to admit I LOLed at this quote :thumbsu::D

Its been pointed out a number of times that all this shit started after Naitanui played well against Hawthorn and certain Melbourne posters felt the need to troll him because Watts wasn't playing as well and Naitanui was getting more attention.

Trolling ruckman/KPPs when they are 18/19 is stupid to say the least. However one must fight fire with fire. :D

lol i don't think oppostition supporters even care about this thread anymore, it's just turned into another WC/Demons sh!t fight:D

Happy days.

The criticism of Watts was actually from neutral fans. God, there was even a thread from DemonDoob (A guy who poses as a Melbourne supporter but just trolls) on our board saying we picked the wrong guy etc.

I actually think there is less risk with Jurrah than Naita. Jurrah is already a footballer, NN (Who I think will be a star) needs to learn a few things first.

Remember guys, as good as NN is, his kicking won't improve a whole lot. He's been playing footy for a few years now and a 10-15% improvement is all you can hope for. I'm not trolling, but there has never been players in the AFL who have DRAMATICALLY improved their disposal. Once you get to 18/19 it doesn't get much better.

Still most decent pundits with a modicum of common sense would say that they are both likely to become very good players, albeit Nicnat is physically well ahead of Watts, and skill-wise I would suggest that Watts is well ahead of Nicnat.

Rise above it man as its great to watch young fellas become great footballers and play great football. The three blokes we are discussing are going to give us many hours of entertainment in thier own different way.

Anyhoo clearly i don't belong here so Ill wander back over to demonland.

cheers

It's only 3 letters, but you left out a very important word used by Matthews on channel 7.
"I've been watching Watts for the last 5 minutes, just the way he's been sort of going about it just a try and get a feel i mean he's a first draft choice you take particular names i mean he's very young he's very under prepared and just at the moment i don't think i haven't seen anything that tells me why he was the first draft choice as of yet."

Then about 20 seconds later after Watts slotted his second he says:

"Well he can kick we know that. It's just interesting the young KPP er.. it is ust so hard for young KPP's to play senior football because they just haven't got the strength to match their height so uhh that's exactly the situation he's what you pick an 18 year old KPP you've got to be patient no matter how good they are"

That is an exact transcript of what Matthews said. Just watched it on BigPond. (I know much of it doesn't make sense as the senile old fool struggles to finish his own sentences).

the thing is, nicnat is actually not that bad a kick.

he just doesnt have the confidence in it to take it on himself and try and hit up targets 40ms away.

we've seen him kick well in the WAFL, in particular his set shot kicking whilst a little arkward is very effective.

im not too fussed about his kicking, its all about confidence.

peter sumich said in a list assesment Re:nat "He doesn't want to make mistakes, which is why I think you're not seeing him kick much."

in saying this, kicking is obviously not his strength. he'll never be as good as jurrah in that aspect. i dont think everyone has seen naitanui kick enough in AFL to make a real judgement on whether he can or not.

im not too fussed though, he done more than enough for a guy coming in half way through the year. i cant wait to see him improve.

Firstly Naitanui isn't a bad kick. Watch some WAFL highlights from last year. He is an average kick by AFL standards and a reasonably good kick for a big guy. The problem isn't that he is a shit kick, its that he hasn't been kicking due probably to lack of confidence as well as the role he is being used in.

Secondly, you probably don't remember Dean Cox at 19 years of age.

His kicking and reading of the play was worse than Naitanui.

Cox is now generally regarded as the best ruckman of the modern era and one of the best of all time.

There goes your theory. :thumbsu:

Jurrah = Fisher

Jurrah is only averaging 2 goals a game
as there is no other target in Melbourne's forward line :D:D:D:D:D:D

2 goals = half Melbourne's score
