OK, I have just 2GB on my physical drive (C). However 1.56GB have already been used up. So I've been trying to delete some crap but I've only managed to clear up 50MB! I have no idea where all this crap is that I want to delete for more hard drive space.

So does anyone have any idea where on my computer I can 'go' to delete some unnecessary junk? And yes I delete Internet Temporary Files.

Any ideas on clearing up more hard drive space is welcomed.

My suggestion is that 2GB is just not enough HDD. Buy yourself another drive and get it popped in - will cost you relatively nothing, and you'll end up with 20 times as much available space.

Yes I know that. But that's not an option right now anyway.

Actually our computer has just been upgraded for more memory and a CD Burner. Doesn't help me though.

Any idea on how much it'd cost though?

Oooh, another question.

What does compressing a drive do, and would it be of any use to me?

Probably not. In the 'old days' of 100 MB drives, compression was great. It'd take a while to compress and from memory, (no pun intended) when you compress a disk an additional few MB is used store the undo data.

Just save yer $'s and try to get at a HD with at least 40GB for probably no more than $160.

Depending on which version of Windows you're running (I'm guessing 2000 from your post), you could get a bit more space (I'm always doing that to the company file server at work to eke out a bit more space). Maybe another 150Mb max. However, as everyone is telling you 2Gb is not a practical size for a disk in this day and age - from experience you need about 6Gb minimum, and you really want as much as you can get. If you compress it, you will just fill up the freed space again immediately. Trust me - I see it happen all the time.

Sometimes space can be taken up by things you can't see. ie. backup files, page files, or recycle bin space. Don't play around with these though unless you know what you are doing.

To find out space used up with certain programs you could check the properties on certain folders (right click on folder --> properties):

Program files
My documents
etc.

Ckeck these and if one is unusually large, explore it further
