I've been having a bit of a look at the recent history of the AFL and if you delve into the record books you will find that...(with exception to Port and Freo)

In the last 11 years - ie since 1990 - Every single club has finished either in the Preliminary Final or better at least once.

If you go from 1991 - you will find that every single club except Collingwood have finished 1,2,3 or 4

If you go from 1992 - you find that every single club except Collingwood and Hawthorn have finished 1,2,3 or 4

Then comes the shock, If you go from 1995 - every single club except Collingwood, Hawthorn and West Coast have finished 1,2,3 or 4.

To think that West Coast made the finals EVERY year from 1990-99 yet didn't even make a Preliminary final after 1995 amazes. They were dealt the wrong end of the stick having to play Essendon and Carlton when by rights it was there home game.

Every other club - with exception to Port and Freo have finished top 4 at least once since 1995.

Add to this North have not finished lower than 4th in the last 7 years.

Adelaide - 1997, 1998 1st
Brisbane - 1996, 1999 3rd
Carlton - 1999 2nd, 2000 3rd
Essendon - 1996 4th, 1999 4th, 2000 1st
Geelong - 1995 2nd,
Melbourne - 1998 4th, 2000 2nd
North - 1995 4th, 1996 1st, 1997 4th, 1998 2nd 1999, 1st, 2000 4th
Richmond - 1995 3rd
StKilda - 1997 2nd
Sydney - 1996 2nd
Bulldogs - 1997 3rd, 1998 3rd

We truly do have an even competition as the AFL wanted, it's clear that North are the most successful side of the period and Collingwood are the least successful

PS:That ought to have wasted as few minutes of your day!!!!!! hahaha

Terrible stats on Hawthorn. But the 13 years straight up till 93, never being thrashed in a final (Doggies, WCE, Adelaide, North take note) pus being on the verge of another successful era eases the pain a bit - but this year is 10 since a premiership - a 'lean' patch if there ever was one !

Pess,

Does that 1985 Grand Final (78 points) mean anything to you? Never been thrashed, you reckon???

The patch up to 1971 was fairly lean for Hawthorn
