League player given 12-match ban for cannabis
BRISBANE, Aug 31 AAP - A social footballer has been banned for 12 matches after testing positive to marijuana during a regional Queensland Rugby League carnival.
Central Capras forward Anthony Munns copped the penalty after taking the banned substance before QRL regional representative carnival on the Sunshine Coast in May.
Munns, of Woorabinda near Rockhampton, is the second Queensland league player this year to be suspended for taking cannabis.
Queensland Cup player Don Malone suffered the same penalty after testing positive while playing for Brisbane club Easts in April.
QRL boss Ross Livermore said a three-man tribunal issued Munns with the minimum penalty for a recreational drug offence under the World Anti-Doping Authority code.
Since July 2005, 13 athletes have tested positive to marijuana in tests conducted by the Australian Sports Anti-Doping Authority.
