I am pretty thick and I need things spelt out clearly for me to understand so could someone tell me the honest truth about Carey.

As far as I get it, there's no more talk of the the oestitis pubis (or whatever), but he did a calf and an ankle and a hamstring and now he is just lacking match fitness.

He has always been Superman to me. Hard knock, ouch, looks proppy, don't worry, he'll be right and the next thing you know he's broken a pack, taken a one-handed mark and kicked a lazy 60m torp. What a star!!!

But lately, that hasn't happened and it hit me like a tonne of bricks (or Carey busting that pack) that maybe it won't happen again.

Now I don't know how mentally prepared Carey is for this moment but I ain't anywhere near being ready to watch him play his last game of footy. I need at least another season and a lot of discussion from the man himself.

So, what is the truth here, do we need to prepare ourselves for that sad day or what?????

Can't remember the exact figures, but......

5 goals vs Melbourne
6 goals vs West Coast Eagles
3 goals vs Brisbane

Also, a freakish ankle injury and he hasn't been able to get match fit......I think the soft tissue injuries are what's causing most of his problems, but what I would like to know is whether Pagan and Carey will bite the bullet and decide that the best way to use Carey on the field (and as a way of prolonging his career) is as a pinch hitting forward.

I cannot answer your question Roobie.

But one interesting thing was said to us by the coaching staff last Thursday night and that - that was his Hammy had internal bleeding!!!!

Now I'm no doctor, but surely you wouldn't play him based on that?

At the beginning of the year I went to Arden Street to watch the boys train. I noticed that Wayne Carey participated in all the training drills, however he was not able to bend down and pick up the pill. In each of the games he has played this year he has not been bending at the waist. I think we can only theorise about his injuries. I would like the football and medical staff to make a sound decision about whether or not Duck plays again this year. I hope the next time I see him playing competitive football is in 2002.

Carey has done well when used as a Paul Roos-type sweeper across half back. This season, despite Carey's goalkicking, the forward line has probably gelled better in his absence, and at the moment we have enough tall options for a bit of variation, and to try a few different things. It might be a handy way to make room for Morrell, and give him some experience. It would also allow versatile players like Colbert, Archer and even Spaull to play forward if needed, and add some variety.

Of course, speculating what role is best for Carey is pointless if he isn't fit enough to take the field at all. :(

Spot on Darky, I've been saying that to mates as well, the delivery into the forward line is a hell of a lot better when Carey isn't there, they actually have to look for options and use the ball better. All that happens now (and has been happening for the past couple of years) is players run the the backline and midfield, lookup ,see Carey and instinctively bomb the ball his way, thinking, 'yeah, it's the Duck, he'll get to it.'
