Couldn't agree more. If we make politicians stand down over a scandal, or harp on Kanye West for the one time he interrupted Taylor, why are our sportsmen/women different? *Note: Coming from an Englishman, but would have said the same if it was England doing the deed.

No chance I'm reading all 4 pages either, but The Greatest Ava how did you see the first test now its all said and done?
  • I thought the Aussie bowling attack were fantastic, even when Malan and Root put on their stand they never looked overly comfortable
  • Aussie's batting deep is again going to be what wins them this Ashes. India are the only other team for mind right now, that I can see with players at 6-7-8 that can make a century. Brilliant innings by Head
  • Thoughts on Green and Harris? Neither were overly convincing. Looks like there are other all-rounders that can do Green's job in the B-side.
  • It will be talked about for 5 weeks, but no Broad and Anderson hurt a lot. Wood and Richardson were good, but one has to make way with Woakes for the Adelaide test. Stiff to miss out, but I'd leave Richardson in and rest Woods.
  • England's batting...well it just wasn't there was it? Blame the conditions, the quality bowling, or something else entirely. I think the mould of 'being aggresively or assertively optimistic' defined by the Aussies needs to be taken on more by other test sides. Thats how Starc gets 27, and Head gets to 50 and how a 150-run 1st innings deficit becomes 278.
England did do the deed. Lots of times.
Trescothic and Atherton both done for ball tampering.
They even gloated about using the mints in 2005.

The difference is no-one expects the Poms to behave otherwise.

Exactly. That’s kind of my point, it’s not just a judgment based on my alliances. Everyone who plays outside the spirit of the game/laws should cop some sort of recompense.

Good post. I am certain Chipmunk also subscribes to that view.

What’s the point of winning and rubbing it in your opponents face if you had to cheat? As maybe the most competitive person I know, I hate even winning when a person/team isn’t at full strength. That’s half the challenge.

Looks like no Josh Hazlewood for the Adelaide Test - Jhye Richardson come on down.

There are a few fellas about who will not let us down, inc the Qld fella.

Such a pity Patto has ruled himself out of Test selection. He terrorised NSW and is in ripping nick. Facing the English, Patto channels the truly frightening Colin Croft. I doubt he would be up for a spirit of cricket award after wreaking carnage, but he would be a hella funny one off selection.

Steve Smith was penalised harder than anyone in international sport.

The maximum official ban for ball tampering is up to 2 matches.

Smith didnt tamper will the ball, was not part of the planning, his crime was not stopping it.

He didn't know it was happening, but did suspect that they were up to something.

To get a year for that is huge.

The funny thing is that the ball tampering didnt even work, they didnt even change the ball afterwards

Really looking forward to Jhye's return, when in form is very dangerous! Hopefully he has a blinder.
Well if his form for WA is any indication, the Poms might be in for a rude shock. Has a Test batsman ever retired scared? :-)

Disappointed for Neser if he misses, but Richo should be ok.

Pity Patto has retired from Test cricket. He terrorised NSW batsmen and bowled beautifully in the recent three Shield matches.

Second Test starts today at the best cricket oval in the world...get around it.

Richardson, has taken 23 wickets at 13.43 in the Sheffield Shield this season, lets go Richo!
If England drop Wood they need their heads read. I get that Anderson should play but Id keep Wood in at Broads expense.
Its called reward. ;)

Cummins is a huge loss but I wouldn't think it will be cancelled.
It kinda reminds me of Glenn McGrath stepping on a ball just before the Second Test in England in 2005......

Idiot Poms will again lose their match fee. Would not give them a stale crumpet.
I don’t necessarily blame the Poms. There isn’t a need to change gloves/have a drink/cop a message every three overs.

It cuts both ways but the shit between overs/wickets taken these days is genuinely ****ed. I’m just old enough to play the old school mantra of cricket.

Simple fix is after every 5 overs or every wicket if not in the 5 overs can have a drink and change of gloves etc. and then no drinks break.

There’s to many breaks please remove 4 of them.

We get through 96 overs in Shield cricket per day without problem.

We get through 80 overs locally in 4.5ish hours with a bunch of old pricks, hungover blokes and blokes that don’t know what cricket is and it seems to work well enough.

Feel sorry for Warner, he battled well and really stuck the course until that final shot.
He can rest that rib injury now, knowing he has done his job.

Poms bowled too short today, serve 'em right.
They will melt tomorrow in 40 degree heat...you watch the field rotations go off the charts. ;)
