Seems like the majority of posters are losing their minds at the thought of us going out and trading second, third or later round picks for players like Houli, Dowler, Sherman and the like. Personally I think those 3 would be handy additions to our side. The majority here however, think that those 3 are complete and utter spuds and are a waste of time going after.

With that in mind I'm wondering, what players would you target from Collingwood, Geelong, Saints, Dogs, Hawks, Sydney, Freo & Carlton if you were trading picks from the second round on?

To answer simply list them here:
Collingwood:
Geelong:
Saints:
Dogs:
Swans:
Freo:
Hawks:
Blues:

I wouldn't exactly lose my mind over the rants in here, it generally sways from the sublime to the ridiculous, I might remind a few that it wasn't more than 6 mths ago that some were suggesting we trade the current coleman medalist, AA after he fluffed a few shots against Sydney earlier on...hmmobjective stuff...so here we go again...ohh my, No heavens above NOT Houli...aghhh ffs, he's expotentially any number of times better than the likes of tambling...sherman..., easily slot into our side, Yes he knows how to kick a goal, **** me if Ive missed something but our next best after JR didnt nudge 15:o

Ignore the ramblings and let FJ do his stuff, In FJ I trust

My take. I tried to be semi realistic and not just list the clubs best players at each club. I also tried to stick to our needs, either small forwards, quick outside goal kicking mids and tall forwards

Collingwood: Brad Dick,
Geelong: Steven Motlop, Taylor Hunt, Ranga Ediriwickrama
Saints: Rhys Stanley, Tom Lynch
Dogs: Everitt
Swans: Vezpremi, White
Freo: Walters, Fyfe, Houghton
Hawks: Young (maybe)

I dislike trade period. Get worried we'll give away a good young player. I'd prefer to do our delistings and pick up players in the draft. I'm happy with 7 delistings eg. Nahas, Mcmahon, Hislop, Polo, Roberts, Gilligan, Thomson. If we can get a trade for one of these then that will be a bonus. If not then don't bother. Otherwise there's only a couple of remaining players on our list who I'd consider in a trade. There are 3 areas we really need to fill on our list and they are:

midsized forward-nahas should be delisted. All we have is taylor and hicks. We are desperate for a midsized forward especially if Morton stays on a wing. A ready made young forward such as Sherman would be exactly what we need. Knights has signed for the Crows, so we need to go for the next best thing. We can also pick one up in the draft but we can't wait 3 years and end up to find out the player didn't make it. At least we know Sherman is a pretty lively forward.

ruckman-probably a young player in the draft. We have 3 reasonable young ruckman on the list who need to develop at senior level, so an 18 year old ruck would be perfect. 4 ruckman on the list is what all clubs need

midfielder-We lack midfield depth. A top young midfielder is what we need. Pick 6

In other words, we should only trade for 1 type of player and that is a midsized forward. If we can't get a trade with any of our delisted players I think Moore would be the perfect player on our remaining list to trade. As for Tambling, maybe Hardwick is worried he needs a move to get his career on track again. I'd shake my head if we tried to trade Rance, Mcguane or Thursfield

This has absolutely nothing to do with what I asked.

Sherman is probably the only player we should trade for who is available. The only type of experienced player we need is a midsized forward. No need to mention any clubs
If you knew why I posted this thread you would understand why I asked what I asked.

Hardwick has pretty much decided that there is no place for specialised midsized forwards, any midfielder playing forward of the ball will do the job almost as well and the upside is their stronger midfield play...That's why Morton moved to the middle, his position was becoming redundant.

Every club needs midsized forwards. Hardwick just means all midsized forwards should be able to play midfield too. But at all times you need 3 players up forward under 190cm

Obviously each of these lists being those of the top 8 have several players I would love to pick up but I'll be completely realistic.

To answer simply list them here:

Collingwood: John Anthony - In a year when the Pies have excelled, yet been much maligned for their efforts in front of goal, a guy Dane Swan described as the best kick at the club after winning the 09 semi against Adelaide has failed to get a gig. He's Jack Riewoldt's age and has shown that he can handle AFL football.

Geelong: Nathan Djerrkura - has voiced his desire to leave, I liked him at under 18 level and from all reports is a respected member of the Geelong squad, it's just been unfortunate that he has been injured. If he is young and keen to impress I think that is what we stand for moving forward at this point. Should be very cheap as well.

Swans: Pat Vezspremi - I've always liked him and I know he has struggled with injury a bit but I find it surprising he is barely spoken about in Sydney circles. He is 21 now which is when you'd be hoping to see something from your first round picks but in his few appearances he has shown enough to make you think he will be a good player. Very interested if deemed surplus.

Freo: Ryan Murphy - I may cop some flack over this but I am from Perth and have watched Murphy develop at South Freo over the past five years or so. Before Tarrant arrived, Murphy was hyped as the next big thing up front. Then when Tarrant moved down back they've been reluctant to play him. Was a first round draft pick, and has talent. His WAFL season was a bit better than his teammate Callum Wilson who played the last few games for the Eagles. Free to any new home I would imagine.

Hawks: Beau Dowler - Again, I think you have to have a look at a guy who was taken so early in the draft. Still just 22 hasn't shown much at Hawthorn and the downside to picking him up would be the amount of developing talls we have already. It's no doubt been a focus in the past couple of drafts. If he is available for nothing, a place on the rookie list is a definite for mine.

:thumbsu:'hollywood' this is a well thought of post ..... all your reasons have merit:thumbsu: I would be happy with a djerrkura or a Vezspremi at the club ...

Yeah I agree.

Dowler - I would trade to get him down. He has a pretty big tank and is a big guy at 196cm. We need a CHF and I think he will still be a very good AFL player. showed in rnd 22 2009 what he can do, but is a victim of not being able to play in the 1's for a constant period in his position aka CHF due to Buddy and Roughy. Cannot believe Hawks have not moved Roughy to CHB and given him a go at CHF.

Vezpremi - Was a gun junior and has size. Kicked 4 early on in his career and hasn't gotten much of a gig. Another talented first round pick we should definitley target.

Murphy - Would thorw him a bone in his PSD given I was really impressed with him at the start of his career. Has platued and woul be worth.

I really want Dowler and Vezpremi.

Mundy is the other one but I don't think it is achieveable because we would be giving up pick 6.

I can't believe John Anthony is 22. I hate that w***er with a passion but for some really dumb reason i actually think if we could get him PSD it would be worthwhile. John and Jack the accuracy attack WTF am i talking about.

no matter what im against us trading any top 30 picks in fact as ive often posted i think it important we attempt to trade into a pick around pick15.

i have no problem taking houli imo no need to trade for him psd. player for player swaps and trading into picks is the go imo.
to me we need to repeat last yr in a way thats just where we are at.
i really cant believe the impatience of people ffs people look at the list it needs a power of work done to it.
how many times must we make the same mistakes how many times must we jump the gun and start trading away our future.

finally just on sherman how soon we forget wasnt the mantra no more poor kicks i thought that was in stone and to be a process we are to always follow.i hope the rfc sticks to its new processes.

On the money yet again Santa. Especially the bolded part.

hey tuggs you wouldnt have any info on how jonathon giles has gone this yr.from what i can gather hes had a real decent yr.
I hear he has had very good year for Sturt. Has had some attitude problems, but seems to have sorted them out and might actually be a late bloomer.
