Ex-Pie rookie named WA's best

Former Collingwood rookie Jye Bolton hopes his Sandover Medal triumph will open the door back to an AFL club.

The Victorian – who was lured from VFL club Werribee to play with Claremont in the WAFL this year – spent the 2011 season on the Magpies' list after being recruited with pick 73 in the previous year's rookie draft.

He played one pre-season game before being delisted at the end of the season.

Bolton polled 49 votes in the Sandover count from his 20 games to beat Fremantle-listed Peel midfielder Matt De Boer, who received 42 votes from just 12 matches.

Ex-St Kilda tagger Clint Jones rounded out the top three, picking up 39 votes after returning to the WAFL for Perth this season.

Bolton also won the Simpson Medal as the state team's best player this year and the 24-year-old hoped his form would attract the interest of AFL clubs.

"I would love nothing more than to have another opportunity to play at the highest level," he told The West Australian.

"I want to play as high as I can for as long as I can. So if someone was to give me that opportunity I would grab it with both hands.

"I would go anywhere around the country in a heartbeat if someone gives me the chance to play in the AFL."

maybe, mabe not..... But the the fact we traded a player who epitomised the club because the coach couldn't get along with him, then decided to keep 2 druggies who shat on the club also speaks volumes of where the club is at presently. we are a shambles

but keep on sprouting verbal diarrhea champ. 13000 quality posts in 12 months congrats:thumbsu:

You conveniently excuse all the transgression of Shaw over the years. These guys have made one mistake not a litany as with Shaw, and will not get as many chances as Shaw got.

And to still be whinging about Shaw after all this time as if we missed flags by trading is absurd.

Two of my top five state leaguers this year are ex Pies.

Brett Eddy as a key forward (albeit previously VFL listed) and Jye Bolton as a midfielder.

They're both AFL ready and good enough if a club offers them a chance.

Excerpt from today's afl.com.au:

SANDOVER medallist Jye Bolton believes he could make an immediate impact at AFL level next season if a club offers him another shot at the big time.

"I feel as though I'm playing good enough footy to warrant selection in a senior side. I know I've got a lot of improvement to do, but I think if I came onto a list I'd be able to contribute to a team straight away."

Even now in the off-season he has been catching up with his teammates for extra fitness training running up and down Perth's hills and beaches, plus additional skills sessions, around his job as a real estate agent.

"I know personally I've got heaps of development left in my game," he said. "If I was to go into an AFL system and full-time environment, I think that my game would improve a lot because I've got so much learning to do.'

"If I was given the chance I would leave absolutely no stone unturned," Bolton said. "I would do everything to repay the faith in a club that gave me a chance."

I been a Fan of Eddy ever since he played for us

I liked the look of Jye when he was with us. Was surprised when we delisted him. Was it outside influences that got him delisted?

Me too, Dave. He was unlucky when he did his knee all those years ago, as he had been invited to the State Draft Combine and may well have been picked up that year. I've kept an eye on him in the SANFL ever since, and (even if it's not with us) hope he gets a crack at the big time. He got a bit of publicity a couple of years back after a really good season and I was surprised he wasn't snapped up then, so we'll see how he goes this time.

As for Jye Bolton, I'm not really sure what ended his career at Collingwood so quickly, but it will also be a good story if he can make it onto an AFL list again.

I was thinking before his Knee that He was Someone I would liked to us to Draft/Rookie how Promising he looked.

I heard that Bolton left more for Off-Field then On-Field stuff. Bolton got a ton of Hype after a Really good Pre-Season. Though Gault did that too;)
