Its OK to be an entertainer, and Kane is, but when you get given a role that affects players wages ( bonuses) and how they are viewed as players, you have a responsibility to not be an outlier. Do you want to hear something funny? Kane Cornes is an AA selector

So Kane Cornes view that Taranto is not in the top 150 is an outlier. It is an opinion so far removed from what the market sees, and coaches value, that it shows a level of incompetence that cant be ignored. It is an outlier that makes the AA jumper, a bigger joke than it already is

Show some class Cornes and resign.

Bookie odds are a garbage metric.

Taranto has been pretty average this season. Wouldn't be in the 44 man squad right now.

We are talking about the top 150

Cornes is a Richmond troll probably because we ruined his last game ever and forced him to be a fireman which he failed at as well . His hatred for Richmond was probably reinforced by his disdain for mick Molloy, google it .

Kane Cornes and every other AA selector should've been removed from the panel last September after they left James Sicily out of the team.

Fairdinkum, that was a disgrace. Probably the worst blunder made in the 33 year history of the awards.

They have zero credibility with me after that rubbish.
 
Cornes is a nuffy.

That would mean every club has give or take 8 better players than Taranto on their list. I love s**t canning the Tigers but that is just ridiculous.

It is obvious he puts a bit of mayo on his claims for clicks and attention. He has made controversy his gimmick. You’d think he reins it when they meet to select the AA team but I’d agree it isn’t a good look.
 
Unless Noah Balta is AA for every single position how can we even take the AA seriously?

Cornes actually said Taranto wasn’t in the top 150 players in the league, the implication being that on average each club has 8 or 9 players better than Taranto.

Then saying top 150 is best 15-20% is just weasel words. Cornes is looking at complete lists when no-one really looks at it that way. Each list is comprised of rookies, second and third year players, the injured, declining veterans,… if you want to say someone is top 10% or 20% then your really have to be talking regular senior players, the guys who are automatic selections only and not the fringe players.

Given the numbers that Taranto has put out it was either a biased or stupid statement. Possibly both.

After round 8
Disposals - 5th
Tackles - 6th
Contested Possessions - 9th
Clearances - 10th
Score Involvements - 26th

Furthermore, given his performance on Saturday he’ll likely poll in the AFLCA award, which will be the 4th time this year.

You want Cornes removed from the team of people responsible for selecting the best 44, players in the game and then forming a team from them.

It wouldn't matter if Taranto is the 45th or 450th player right now. He's not in that squad and Cornes is well within his rights to say so.

Going to Kane's original point: Would Richmond make the trades for Taranto & Hopper again, knowing they are likely to finish bottom 6 and have to start a rebuild.

The club won't have a clutch of early picks and, by the time they really bottom out, will be sitting behind the wall of Tasmanian priority selections for the best talent in the draft.

Of course the Tigers didn't know it at the time but his question was specifically one of hindsight.

It's a fair and valid question/criticism.

Whilst Kornes is a sensationalist hack looking for attention & shouldn't be an AA selector...

It is a huge concern that Harwick has been easily triggered by the media this year.

Blaming the weather forecaster for going in too tall was a classic.

It's a sign that he should be looking to move on as his mind isn't fully on the job.

Yeah it's gradually just lost all meaning to me as well. Just name the favourites of the selectors and there's your team. Form frequently simply doesn't come into the equation.

He's not the only one who has disdain for Mick Molloy though, and I can't say I blame him.

Completely agree about him not being on the AA panel, but if they started down that path no one would have job in the footy media. There are conflicts of interest everywhere, Cornes isn't alone. Why he's decided to single out Taranto is still a bit of a mystery but anyway.
