Kane Cornes

Hey guys just wondering how people rate Kane Cornes.

I don't usaully bag players but after seeing a few of his games this season i couldn't resist. He may get 30+ touches a game but they are all useless touches in the back pocket from kick ins or short kicks around the ground.

for a tagger I would have a bit of respect for him if he actually shut down the player he was tagging. 3 from memmory Dal santo 25 possesions on Cornes, 35 and most recently carrazo 28.

What are your thoughts on him, really interested what Port supported have to say.

P.S And yes Scotland is just as cheap so don't have a go at him becuase i will just agree with you.

The response to the thread is the problem. Good dreamteamer, great dreamteamer, nothing else. Gets 30 possessions, is he noticed, not at all, do they damage opposition, no, he was 4th best for Port this week with 30 possessions.

That said, I'm sorry I didn't put him captain last week, I'll make it up this week

Totally agree Arsene,

He was a major part of us having success in the 2004 GF (excellent game on Simon Black) as a tagger. By far his best games, that have been a benefit to our team, have been when Kane has played as run-with, tagger.

For some reason now he plays as a link-man, creator and just hasnt the skills to play that role well. As Arsene previously mentioned, he doesnt hurt sides much if at all, and his kicking lacks serious penetration. His accountability to his direct opponent is slack at times too.

However, you could never question his work ethics or desire to succeed, just at this point in time his attributes are IMO being misused.

Biggest cheapo in the AFL. He gets 30 touches a game, most of which are useless. Scotland, while cheap, is not near as bad as Kane Cornes. Not a horrible player, but it'd be good to see him focus on winning the hard ball and actually manning up his opponent rather than running 30 metres behind the ball to get a cheap mark.

he slows port down a lot when he gets the ball and they tend to chip it around the backline and try and play tempo football, port would be much better off if he forgot about trying to get the ball and worried about being a good tagger

in 2004 he was a brilliant tagger who kept the best opposition onballer out of the game more often than not while picking up usually 15-20 quality possessions a game and shitloads of tackles

since then he has either been relinquished of his tagging roles and now is happy to bludge 30 possies at half back.. it seems his first instinct is to kick sideways, but still does the odd courageous thing.

He needs to get back to playing the same role as he did in 2004. I have no idea why he doesnt anymore... is it coaches instruction? i dont think its Kanes ability as a tagger i just dont think he tags anymore which in my opinion was his best attribute

i always thought he was pretty good but then i hardly ever watch port play. I was talking with a current AFL player on Sat night watching the Blues V Port game and we were discussing how the crows missed out on 3 potential father/sons in Gibbs and the cornes boys. He said Kane would not get a game at the crows and that they didn't rate him at all.

Said he gets useless stats and likes kicking it to his brother all the time. Was interesting to hear what other players/clubs think of a player coz as i said earlier, i always thought he was a pretty good player.

yeah mate totally agree!!!!!!!!

for some reason he has tried to develop himself out of that 'tagger' role and become a damaging midfielder, but his kicking and decision making is terrible! dont get me wrong, his work ethic (as previously mentioned) and will to suceed is first rate and i love him for wanting to do well for the footy club, but he just cant cope with shutting someone down as well as getting the ball! its either one or the other!

and on the whole stats thing, yeah he does kill with the stats, but as a season ticket holder, you can see that he really kills us sometimes!!!!!!! when he has the ball, his brother is ALWAYS the first option (not that its a bad thing always, but even if chad's in a bad postion, he'll still kick ot him and put him under pressure).... and when he doesnt have to ball, he'll run past (especially in defence) the player with the ball without looking at whats infront of him, and get himself in trouble, give off a hanball (1 stat here please), and put that team mate in more trouble, resulting in a turnover and GOAL!!!!

i dont want to bag my teams players too much, but Kane needs to take a look at where he and the team are going, and get back to his brilliant best, hard at the footy and body!!!

Good work ethic, good courage, disposal and desicion making lets him down. But that can be worked on, he still has alot of potential to be more than a stat rat
