Kane Lucas

That's the point that's being missed - the reason he's not playing as many games as Melksham, Gysberts, Bastinac, Fyfe, Pittard etc. from around him in the draft is injuries, not lack of opportunity.

Actually, the rumour was that Lucas was disgruntled by the way Carlton managed his injury, apparently he told the medical staff that his hamstrings felt like they were going to ping and they still sent him out and he did his hammy again.

Make of it what you will but that is what I've read so don't take it as gospel but that is why the rumour has started, especially when you consider that on SEN (I think it was Ox) said that Richmond and Carlton were doing some sort of deal.

Put 2 and 2 together and that's what you get.

This is a classic BF rumour: 2nd year player not playing --> must be disgruntled --> trade!!!1one1![/QUOTE]

Yeah, well it's that time of the year and footys finished so people have nothing more to do then get creative and list every rumour they hear, nothing wrong with a bit of speculation that gets everyone talking.

I think you need to actually watch him play then. Watch his goal assists in his last game this season and his accurate long passes into the forward line. Obviously Simpson is a much better player, but Lucas is a fair bit better kick. Lucas is exactly the sort of midfielder Essendon needs.

Apart from a nervous first half in his debut I challenge you to find any examples of him at AFL level displaying anything less than above average disposal.

I'll have to respectfully disagree then.

Again, nothing wrong with the type of player I see Lucas to be (see my avatar;)) but he's not what I see Essendon's deficiencies to be. Again, I'm not saying he's a bad kick because he's not, but I don't see him as that 50m spear pass guy we need who can also work the other way.

Simpson on the other hand is in the team to hit targets, and I think he does that pretty well most of the time. He stuffs up (see the drawn game), but so do Pendlebury, Ablett, Murphy etc.

Watched a bit of Lucas - Even watched him play a game for the Northern Bullants earlier this year - Think his kicking per se is solid - His disposal weakness is more a case of decision making - Has a great burst of speed - Often doesn' t slow down before disposing of the ball - And is sometimes like a deer in headlights when he has the ball.

Needs to add more poise to his game which should come in time.

I rate Hooker. But it'd require more than a straight swap. Probably a pick upgrade as well.

I'd certainly rather Hooker than Daniel bloody Connors

Lucas looks like he'll be a quality midfielder for 200+ games when he gets up and about. Barring injury, Hooker has shown more than enough to say that he WILL be a quality defender for 200+ games.

I would have thought a straight awap would be fair?

We have no need for Hille, Bellchambers

I'd agree.

Not sure here, he can play the role Gibbs currently occupies, can go into the middle and also act as a tall defender. Very versatile. Just needs to string a few more good games together.

Probably not Gumby either considering he can never get on the park.

Much to my frustration. If he could get on the park he wouldn't be on the trade table.... :(

Lucas strikes me as an accumulator rather than silk. Nothing wrong with that, but just not what we need. I'm not saying he's a bad kick or anything, but as I said before, he's not so good that he's worth selling the farm for. Would I take him? Absolutely. Would I offer something that Carlton would accept? Unlikely. If I were after a Carlton mid (the elite Judd and Murphy aside), Kade Simpson would be the one. Very outside, but a deadly left foot, and capable of putting it down a forward's throat.

To use a more extreme example, Tom Bellchambers is a good prospect, and you'd certainly take him at Carlton, but you wouldn't pay what Essendon would be after simply because you don't need a ruckman. While we certainly need a midfielder, we don't need an accumulator. We need a finisher.

As for Davies, I wish there was a function where reasonable posters like yourself could read a serious conversation, and trolls like TheGeneral could read something different.

BF Myth that slight players can't win their own ball. Simpson is the most courageous player on our list (excluding Robinson who is a nut case, no concern for his own health), will always stand up when we need him, kicks clutch goals and leads from the front.

WOULD NEVER TRADE HIM

I didn't say he was soft, I said he plays an outside role.

A swap of first picks would make me warm to it a bit more. Lucas, #22 and #44 for Hooker, #19 and #41.

Even so, i don't want to trade Lucas. He has shown heaps of potential and the Club's first priority should be keeping rather than trading him.

He doesn't have enough value to be worth a trade, considering how good a player he could become for us.

Gibbs has played all over the shop this year. He was at half-forward for the last part of the season.

We don't need a player like Myers. We have recently received Duigan and Laidler to play in defence, and they've been brilliant. Myers wouldn't get a game ahead of them.

Our midfield is already jam packed, Myers doesn't offer us what we need there (AKA an inside midfielder).

We have very little need for Myers. He might play a handful of games at best. Probably only if some of our blokes get injured.
