Mitchell goes alright but I haven't really seen much to suggest he is going to be a long-term AFL player. With that being said, it's not like Power used an early pick on him or anything so he doesn't really need to be. Adds some energy to the Port side, especially when used as a sub.

I'd also like to know why he is a prick? I don't blame you guys for wanting/thinking he'll fail at AFL level. It's human nature to want to see someone you dislike fail.

I have, his work ethic and desire to succeed. This is the most important thing to achieve success. Believe in yourself and he has that. You can have all the talent and goals in the world but unless you willing to work at it you won't make it. Work ethic.

Also his dangerousness around goals is really appealing!

Bootsma is not very good. Mick Malthouse is coaching a bottom eight side so that's hardly an endorsement. Bootsma is like a deer in the headlights. He has no cool and has no idea on how to position – a pretty questionable flaw when you're a defender...

Interesting that the people outside of Perth are the ones sticking up for him.

Look, he isn't Hitler and he's not a genuinely awful or evil person at all. He just has an ego. And his hair has a lot to do with his career. You can say that's bullshit, but here's something that might be shocking: the AFL, and playing AFL, is a lot of luck and bullshit.

The people in WA are also the people saying he's not that good. Because he isn't. Even in the slower, less intense world of the WAFL, he was still just an athlete.

I'm as much "outside of Perth" as you are. I'm a West Aussie living in Melbourne. I've not heard anything bad from people I know who have met / know Kane.

The suggestion that his hair has in any way influenced a club's decision to pick him up is just laughable tbh. It's not 1986 any more. AFL recruiters work full time, and while they mightn't all agree on him someone saw enough to pick him up and that's good enough for me.

That's not true. There is so much wank in AFL recruitment and you're giving too much credit to them. Those WAFL umpires are not full time and are barely part time. They get paid so little. In a game of congestion, someone with a high fitness base will be around the packs constantly; and someone with long hair will be the most obvious contender. "That bloke with long hair was around the footy a lot."

How many recruiters do you know? I'm intrigued. The ones I know can tell me a lot about a lot of different players - strengths, weaknesses, what can be fixed, what can't be. None has ever discussed a player's hair with me. Of course they noticed that Kane got a lot of the pill. He did. His hair had nothing to do with that.

As I was saying it sounds like it's more your ability to spot talent that's not very good. Chosen for senior football in both his first and second seasons despite his inexperience suggests he's going ok. As for his positioning, he's rated by Gavin Brown as the best spoiler at the club, ahead of Jamison and Laidler and us very rarely out marked by anyone despite his size. I would think Mick Malthouse and Gavin Brown know a bit more about this stuff than you.

As for your comments on Mitchell, starting to sound like you have a bias against him due to a personal problem, similar to what you had to say about Bootsma last year. They didn't sign your boob for you, move on champ.

Nobodys Claiming He's A Star, And Yeah He Has Aome Huge Flaws In His Game Which Probably Means He Wont Be Highly Targetes By Clubs, But What He Does He Does As Good as anyone

I'm from Perth and personally know the relative of a board member from Claremont who, knowing I was a Port supporter, sought me out in excitement once Kane had been drafted. To summarise the conversations he came across as very much a club man, a character and a great person to have at the club who was very popular and would be missed. This relative would tell me how those at the club were tracking his every move, postulating how he would make his way to the senior list and when he played his first NAB cup game and picked up 25+ possessions there was a real sense of excitement.

His interaction with the Port fans so far has been outstanding, he's posted pictures of his extended family in Port gear and he's really embraced the club and the opportunity, is already a popular member of the playing group and fits in like he's been here for 5 years.

As for the hair, he's been quoted saying he's growing his hair long while he can because he thinks he'll go bald. "Growing it long to gain votes" could easily be a throwaway line, not everything is meant to be taken seriously, he could have been talking shit or using it as a self deprecatory response to the 800th time that week someone asked him about his hair. Either way it's not the first time internet heroes have made presumptuous generalisations using third hand information and it won't be the last.

This thread seems to have gone a bit quiet. Port supporters still pissed about picking this guy up? I'd imagine so ;) PortMagic Schulzenfest Sin City

More evidence of how good a judge of footballers the average BF poster is imo
