Don't worry, i'm sure your club will get the publicity Connolly seeks. Farmer should be making the front page again soon.

Very satisfied with the performance today. Harris continues his rise, Rawlings shut down Judd, Firrito shut down Kerr and Colbert continues his fine season with a masterful display in the backlines. Back in the eight until next week when Sydney beat Collingwood.

Yes, his only role today was to sit up Judds *rse. Give the boy a medal. If the umpires enforced the rules and prevented hacks like him from holding their opponents jumpers all game, then he would've been humiliated today.

Atleast guys like Stenglein and Kirk get a lot of the ball whilst nullifying their opponents.

btw, congrats to the Kangas, played solid all day and held their nerve when the eagles tried to mount a comeback.

LMAO.

When Judd got it, he was tackled. Pretty sure that's allowed.

Unless you were at the game, I can safely see you didn't see anything you could be construed as obstructing Judd before the ball was in his hands.

Judd is a gun, Brady is not, but he slapped his arse.

Baby.

Rawlings had 13 disposals and kicked a goal, not a bad effort. Quite simply our midfield tackled lots, and tackled hard, we had over 50 tackles which is well above average, West Coast's tackling was below average. This pressure is what won us the footy out of the middle through Stevens and Harris, and on a short ground like Manuka, clearances are crucial.

Great game Brady.

Yeah we don't post much in the main board - too many of those threads end up in abuse between fools.

It was one of our more solid, non-flashy wins for the season. Our tackling was much better today - we were ranked last in the AFL prior to the game. Compared to our great 90s teams, our tackling has been poor for most of the season.

It really wasn't a win worth getting excited about. We put the screws on the Eagles who rely on too few to win the game, once you are that predictable its not rocket science, all you need are a few taggers.

Eagles have alot of good players but if the typical few aren't dominating then the others dont really lift.

I dont think either will play finals this year, but the eagles are few years ahead in player development than where we are so that would be more of a disappointment for them than us.

We are still in the process of flushing out the retirees over the next few years and picking up some more young kids.

North are going on track for my expectations of this year. Still four interstate goals to go so thats going to put the skids on the finals for 2004 most likely.

I think the Kangas are not that bad of a team - they do not have any depth but if they can play the same 22 they played this week they are going to win more games thna they lose.

Thats an odd statement..

At the risk of getting all broken recordish, we had 5 first year players in our team, and a spine with an average games played figure of less than 30. How does that equal us being ahead of you in player development?

In terms of todays game, well c'est la footy. A very disappointing loss for us, but one which probably reflects where we're at at the moment, relying on the midfield to carry the load whilst the kpps develop- matters are not helped by missing Embley and of course Gardiner, and having two other midfielders (Kerr, Cousins) basically in the walking wounded category at the moment.

Realistically, this season was a write off for us the moment Gardiner went out for the season- we simply do not have enough debt to cope with a loss of that magnitude. All we can do is blood the youngsters and look towards next year when we hopefully get our best player back out on the park.

Not to mention we had the most ridiculous hard draw in the AFL. Whilst I would have loved for us to win on the weekend I know with the side we have in at the moment we are just making up the numbers anyway. No use finishing 8th and losing first week of the finals (hey Dockers?)

I had to laugh when I heard someone say the season was over and we should start playing young kids.... We've been doing that since Round 1!!!!! At least we have done the right thing..... and blooded 6 first year players this year... and every single one of them look like they are going to be players. Good to see Sam Butler do so well in his 3rd game... picking up 17 kicks and getting in the best players. Seaby got 22 hit outs on his own... the whole Kangaroos team only got 28... Cox got 20 and to come back into the side we've got Gardiner, Embley, Gaspar, Staker, Selwood who are all injured and would be automatically in the best 22. Then we have Collica, Adkins, Banfield, Green, Waters, Humm, Hunter, Johnson, Wooden who can't get a game at the moment because of the young players doing well. We're building depth at the moment :D

I gotta agree with Underpants on this one. In general we had a better, more experienced team on the park and when our best players were shut down, no one stepped up and provided some leadership. The Roos should be happy and we should be disappointed.

Atleast try and be objective about it.
Can you be more specific?

What I was referring to was that the 90s Eagle team was on average 2-3 years older than our team so you have retired almost everyone from that era and replaced them with new young players.

We are still in the process of retiring our 90s team, we will still be losing around 3 of them a year for the next 3 years so are still in the process of building and recruiting a new team so we are a fair way behind the Eagles in that aspect.

That being said, we are still blooding alot of young kids at this stage which is a good thing, but by the time we finish rebuiling around 2006 we should have a fairly good team for the next 10 odd years, and have a much better age distribution than what we had under Pagan.

I was not implying the Eagles dont have a good team, I think you are always looking to go forwards as a team irrespective if you do not win as many games or play finals. I am happy where we are at and where we are going without being unrealistic.

I love watching the Eagles play because they have a very aggressive style of attacking football which I enjoy watching more than a Brisbane choke & flood game. That being said, I think the Eagles need a far more accountable and defensive gameplan because when the team is on the back foot they do not defend very well.

I know Gardiner and a few others are missing, but there is no excuses for playing unfit players. If you walk onto the field there are no excuses. If they are not up to scratch, don't play them.

You would not want to put all your hope on being competitive on the availability of Gardnier in the future. He is a great player but you never know, he may be plagued with injury problems all of his career.

I dont think the ruck was the issue anyway, both your ruckman had over 20 hitouts and Porter, our only real ruckman if you can call him that, had just 8.

We will more than lilely be inept in the ruck until Hale and McIntosh develop into senior players.

I agree that the draw is very flawed, some teams get a dream draw and others get shafted. I think there needs to be more equity in the draw but hard to see that happening unless the season is extended.
