he is a shit rapper, no contest there.

I may have undersold his producing a little he is one of the better ones out there but by no means the greatest, he is overrated imo and his fanboys are terrible the comments I read on here are laughable.

There are plenty of better rappers out there than Kanye. It's just that Kanye has this amazing ability to tell stories and convey emotion that makes him so good.

That's it. He doesn't have an amazing flow or can cram words into one another, but he has a pretty humorous and witty turn of phrase. Even if he can't fuse them together vocally, he can drop a couplet or a few lines that are just fun to listen to. They seem perfect, like the words were made for each other. Unlike someone like Earl, who can manage to make sounds seem they were made to go that way when, really, they're never used like that.

Plus, the thing about Kanye, is it's a lot of it is about the storytelling and ego. They go so well together. It's all about him. All his best songs, even back to Family Business, are about himself and how he feels about things. Plus I think his take on race politics is pretty interesting, and his way of curating his own cultural events (the whole of his second last album) is pretty cool.

It's all an act anyway. It's no different to David Bowie wearing costumes, Britney saying she was a virgin, or Alex Turner smoking and pretending to be James Dean. Music can be about showmanship and characters. He does well to be outspoken and loud and egotistical, he makes headlines and has songs good enough to back them up. He's smart about it.

I personally just see it all as a show. I highly doubt he's genuinely at that level of ego all the time.
