I think this movie could have done well, before the Cobra Kai TV series or after a year or two of the series ending. However given its released literally a few months after the series finale episode, I am skeptical about how it may go.

Saw the trailer and didnt mind it. While I definitely wont go to the cinema to watch it, I look forward to it, when its online.

The timing of this movie is poor. I think they should have waited for the dust to settle from Cobra Kai series and given fans a breather.

bourbons made a good point that this could potentially lead on from the Miyagi box sub-plot from Cobra Kai..

Only something like that would make sense with this coming so quickly after CK.

I dont think it does, my understanding is that there is different writers.

Also from what I can tell from the trailer the look and feel of this movie is very different to Cobra Kai, which I think is a good thing, for a standalone movie.

So having watched a few analysis of the trailer, apparently its set about 3 years after Cobra Kai and Daniel takes on the new student most likely because he has no kids to teach in his dojo as they have all moved on.

There may be a Johnny Lawrence cameo or someone from the Cobra Kai universe, but it appears it will be very small role.
