I believe in this over god or anything else, i dont stress or get angry, because the world is circle work in my opinion, if you do good things then good things come back, i recently lost my job but i have been presented with a couple of new opportunities because i didnt feel bad or angry at my work (recession), Last night also confirms my case, i lined up for a beer and some guy pushed in front, i just smiled and thought oh well what ever, so as the bar tender gave him his drink, he accidently tripped and spilt it all over him, ahhh fun :) but what is your thoughts.

Do you believe in Karma, do you think our life is already planned before it happens so we stress for no reason, or do you think it is what we make it?

Very similar story to the OP. Lost a high paying job and basically hit rock bottom, wife & 3 kids and mortgage.
Took a shit job for 6 months (after being out of work for 3) and kept positive even when life sucked. Applied for dozens of jobs where I never even received a callback or interview (degree qualified), even recruitment firms I used in my previous job didn't return any favours (huge letdown)
I kept positive & threw myself into sport and family.
I eventually got my current job, the best I've had & with it, just over double what I was previously on.
Shit yeah I believe in karma, I donate to nearly every legitimate charity and try to avoid negative people and conversations. Unfortunately, I've also had to let go of several acquaintances that weren't positive influences.
Bad and good stuff does come back at you eventually, I now prefer to act with good intentions.

Humans are genetic pattern seekers and vengeful by nature, a perfect recipe for the invention of a concept like 'Karma'.

We think we see patterns in the events around us, especially if we see someone getting what they 'deserve' (i.e. revenge by proxy).

Karma has about as much credibility as the Tooth Fairy.

I'm not religious in anyway, but i do believe in karma to a certain point. In that things take care of themselves because they have to.

Having said that, you can wait for karma to help you out, but it doesnt until its ready. And that can be a very long time.

I now live by the rule, treat others as you would like to be treated. And treasure your family and close friends.

Are you bitter on life because she never left you any money?

Just in adding, karma works in very small ways too i believe.

I have two great dogs. I treat them with much love and respect, give them a good life.

They return it to me by just laying down next to me and licking my leg, and being very protective over me. ( dont get me wrong, i tell them off when they need it )

Karma in its simplist form. :thumbsu:

That's not Karma, that's nature. Karma, for me joins words such as surreal and ironic as some of the most misused words in our modern lexicon.

Good things and bad things happen to everyone whether they are good people or bad people.

You can say a person is bad and they deserved the bad thing to happen through karma but by law of averages something bad is always going to happen to someone. This is regardless of whether they are a good or bad person. The reverse applies for good people.

It's not karma, it's just how things work. You can be a bad person but have only good things happen to you. As soon as something bad happens, as it eventually will, others will say it's karma.

I am atheist :), though i dont feel the need to put other religions down, i feel that people who put people down have such miserable lives that this is the only way they feel good about themselves, there is a limit between fun a laugh and just sheer rudeness, unfortunately some people dont know where that line is.

Karma, i suppose like anything will never be proven, like God, like Aliens, like Ghosts, but if we all did good by others the world would be a much sounder place.

Thats karma, believe me. Treat those dogs in a bad way, and you get no response back.

Karma is tied in with nature.........treat those as you would like to be treated. Sure it gets more complicated. Karma is a pure form of mother nature. After all we are all animals.

So you dont believe that if you do something good, or bad to someone, something. You will not get good or bad back ??

I'm afraid that, that is what happens. Call it what you will. Most call it karma. I have had both good and bad because of my actions.

I have also seen it happen to others. :thumbsu:

Don't believe in karma in any sort of mystic sense, but there is something to it. If you do good things, people will be more likely to do good things back to you. Also, if you do good things, and you enjoy doing it, you will develop a more positive mindset, making the good things that happen to you more important, more salient, than the bad things. By the same token, a negative mindset leads to negative salience.

Pretty much sums it up, without giving it a name.....( namely karma ) :p

Question, what is wrong with you?

But that it just getting good for good, not the result of some mystic spiritual shit.

You could do something good for someone, yet get spat in the face for it. What do you call that? Did you deserve it because you did something bad?

I strongly agree with this concept of karma and strongly disagree with the OP's concept. IMO the "what goes around comes around" is a very reactive and passive way to live.
If you want revenge, either go out and take it for yourself or shrug it off and know it won't be worth it (usually the smart thing to do). If you want good things to happen to you, get out there and make them happen.
However I do believe in a similar concept that good things and bad things will run in cycles. Maybe it's a mindset thing but I tend to find times where all the things i'm looking forward to will go horribly wrong and things will gradually pick up to the stage where nothing can go wrong and good things happen out of nowhere only to fall back to the previous stage.
