he was always going to be hard at it and not afraid to get stuck in the mix. that's the way rugby league is played.

he's not there yet though. for all the good stuff he does, he still takes wrong options at times, and loses his feet too easily. he turned over the ball several times at crucial moments last night in the final qtr, and was only saved by ESS errors & the conditions.

Karmichael is going well. It's funny how people bag players in their 1st or 2nd year when it normally takes 5 years to become a good player.
Strange society.

What's good is that his main "shortcoming" is lack of footy smarts, not lack of skill and definitely not lack of effort. He's got the basics down pat, and the awareness will come with experience.

And he's a good fit for the Suns in this "enforcer" type role. They've got plenty of kids with skill but no physical presence, so they need a guy who loves to just charge in and bang some bodies....

Did I say he was bad? I just said to settle down, he wasn't fantastic. Conditions suited him as well.

Also in a couple of years he'll be 27-28, doubt he'll improve THAT much.

People are easily impressed. You are right, the conditions suited him. When it started raining and it became a scrapfest in close he was effective. But even then I only counted maybe 3-4 effective hand passes. No where near as good as the commentators were saying. Lets see if he can back it up next week.

gets better everytime he plays. i got a lot of admiration for this bloke. if he is still playing in 2 years who knows how good he could be. :thumbsu:

actually he got most of his possesions before the rain started.
he looked really good giving some quick hands away, and you can see he is starting to make the right decision most of the time.
being at the ground i was really impresed by him.

Bomber fans crack me up they hail Hurley as the greatest thing since sliced bread and then bag others for saying people are easily impressed.
This is Hunts second year of footy and probably his 30th game of his life.
A couple of Essendon second year plus players last night were Melsham 12 touches, Zaharakis(B&F) 12 touches Reimers 6 and Carlisle 7 all did F**K all.
Karmichael is improving and is loving the AFL what more can you ask?

I wasn't aware we were talking about essendon players. I could name a few hawks players werent up to par in their last game.

One average game doesn't make Hunt a "superb" player. A couple of bumps and tackles are great but, sorry i'm not convinced. I would take someone like Matera, Prestia, Tape, etc. over Hunt in yesterdays match.

Hunt is doing OK. I,m no expansion fan ,but Hunt is improving , he has had aussie rules experience before , he should do well.

If we had no expansion then perhaps he would never have played our game. Perhaps he,s taking an oportunity off some young aussie rules kid getting a chance, thats my beef.

Ablett is a team player and is brilliant in a side that is not up to it yet. Not many players in history can keep going like him, when things aren,t rosey.

He was very impressive last night, his touches were all pretty good and he applied a lot of pressure on the ball carrier... I think he'll be a decent player
Every one needs to remember with Hunt that he is playing a new game at the elite level. There are thousands of aussie rules players that will never ever get any where near that level, so cut him some slack before cutting his head off.

As for expansion= bad idea.

This. Haters should get their facts straight. Yes, the commentators were a little OTT but he is a project player and a marquee player to the GC public so the media scrutiny will always be there. We should be happy for him when he does do good things and he can only get better.

hes actually playing fairly well.

of corse, stats dont show it, but thats because hes a defender!

what do you expect? 40 touches and 3 goals?

The idea of a defender is to stop your direct opponent kicking goals, and apart from the dons game (but when the oposition kicks 20 goals in a quarter you can forgive him), he has!
He lays a good shirt front hey.

Last night was probably his best game by far. He's putting his body on the line and he's improving heaps and that's all you can ask for, but i'd say it's too early to say that he's a amazing player.

He has to improve his gut-running to find some outside ball, but he was good in-close last night, and easily his best game. The commentators were OTT, but he and Folau are scrutinized more than most, so their successes should be celebrated.

Try looking at it with some context. Maybe it wasn't the complete 4 quarter game you'd expect from experienced players, but his 9 possesion second quarter which was a big part of the reason suns got back into the game was impressive.

This ^^^

Also, his physical pressure made a few players make mistakes. Really liked his game, and hope that his hit on Monfries is given the all clear. Was a thing of beauty.

I like the way he plays.
He actually has nearly perfected the way to lay a hard tackle without giving away a free.
I liked watching the game.
I forgot that I was watching "an expansion" team.

Commentators ? WTF they're always OTT on somebody. Rioli, Buddy, Natanui,Judd,betts..... anyone.
