Frontline was a terrific show and to this day Martin Di Stasio is still one of the greatest characters ever on TV. As was the Friday Night funny man

ok, read it slowly. reading derogatory references on a constant basis implies juvenility, insensitivity or homophobia. take your pick.

You mean you get offended if someone uses the word 'carpet muncher'?

You mean people are homephobic if they use the word 'fudge packer'?

You mean someone must be a juvenile if they used the word 'dyke'?

You obviously forget that the Australia gay community have a mardi gras every year and take the piss out of everyone else. I don't have a problem with this, but though I'd bring it up for your education.

Just for the record, I am not homophobic, nor a juvenile. I think you should take your politic correctness ideas and stick them where they fit. And get that chip off your shoulder.

FFS, who cares?

Is the media so desperate in it's need for sensationalism that they have to pass this off as news worthy?

The answer of course is yes.

Hmmm I feel like Eddie interviewing himself :D

Let's keep going with the questions...

I wonder if her and a girlfriend will let me watch

The answer is a probable no. ;)

:D

After discussing this "news of the day" (and I use the term loosely here) with my wife, I just have to ask this... Of all of those athletes, men and women, who have either come "out" or who we suspect might be gays or lesbians, is it really a greater percentage than that of the population as a whole?

And there's a double-standard that exists in our society-- men think it's so cool to see two women kissing in a passionate manner (such as the case with some "Big Brother" episodes recently), but as soon as we hear of some female celebrity and her lover coming out of the closet, the attitude is that of feeling grossed out! Something doesn't seem right here...

Maybe that explains some of the knee-jerk reactionary posts on this thread, or what else seems to be passing for intellectual debate on the matter.
Personally and professionally, I have no problem with it whatsoever. On a personal level, I have known plenty of gays, lesbians and bisexuals as friends in my lifetime, and that hasn't affected how I view these people. And on a professional level, yes, as a sportswriter who covers women's sports as part of my overall beat, I have indeed reported on and/or interviewed many women who were either lesbians, bisexuals, or ambiguent about their sexual preference. Does that make any difference about how I do my job? Of course not! It shouldn't colour nor affect my objectivity whatsoever.

It shouldn't matter whether Karrie Webb, or any other female athlete, for that sake, is gay or bisexual any more than we'd debate if any of the men are. The only thing we should debate whether Ms. Webb makes the cut over is in the next tournament she plays in on the LPGA tour.

Off my soapbox now, just had to get my two cents in on the matter. :)

Cheers,
William

exactly - who cares what she is about ?

Male or Female - you'd need a blindfold and a paper bag before going anywhere near Webb anyway wouldn't you ?

She's just such a ................. golfer :(

If you know what I mean ?

I thought that the fact that she is a lesbian was common knowledge. At least I have known for at least the last two years.

Doesn't affect her ability to play golf.

I doubt it's likely to happen, it's just a hypothetical, but would it worry you if your favourite footballer suddenly outed themselves and admitted they were gay? Wouldn't worry me in the slightest; they're still the same player and the same person they've always been, and what they do in their own bedroom is no concern of mine.

It's not exactly a retraction of what they originally published on Monday, but it looks like some folks want certain writers at The Age to be accountable for their stories on the Karrie Webb matter...

Sounds like a weird justification to me, in something that continues to create more mountains out of molehills.

Cheers,
William
